As much as I don't like the two terminals I now exclusively deal with, the bullshit is no where near what it was like in my US Xpress days. For the most part the only other company I'd really want to work for is old dominion and even then we would be trading off some pros for cons. I have some friends (who I knew pretty truckers days so it's not the bs trucker talk) who have teamed for them for 4 years now and are set to make 180k this year whereas we will do 140k but are pretty much pay capped. They are out of Atlanta though and get to do a lot of runs out to rialto ca and back. If we got on with them chances are we would spend most of our time running across 80 which can straight go to hell in the winters while hauling doubles.

If you gotta put 6 months In at a crap driver mill company do so, but flee as fast as you can. Now I run terminal to terminal with FedEx and it's the bees knees compared to OTR random dispatch. I'm not on the road for a month at a time and I don't have to deliver paper rolls to a man-made cave in Kansas City, but most importantly I don't have to wander around trying to find an empty trailer or show up at the shipper after hours and then have to explain to dispatch that No, It's Sunday morning and the shipper is closed there is a sign stating the hours I don't care what the planner said I can't get in to pick up the trailer. Ozmiander: Work at a poo poo OTR rookie grinder if you want poo poo stories, or just go find a good LTL where you can get experience and actually make money and might actually like the work. Or a regional carrier. Or bulk or tanker or run reefer from NY to FL and back all day long (HOLY poo poo NO gently caress THE BELTWAY). double edit: R&L trucking is based in the Northeast and they run LTL and sometimes 53 footers. Just try to stay away from some fly by night outfit that may or may not pay you. CannonFodder fucked around with this message at 03:49 on Oct 4, 2014 |

CannonFodder posted:but in FedEx parlance it's a butthead. Haha. We just call it a swap. As a solo driver for rnl you would either do p&d work which involves working the dock, Linehaul which can be either doing a swap with another driver and ending up back at home terminal or running wild where you may be out up to 5 days running between terminals. Then there's some wackos who do a mix of Linehaul and p&d work. All in all its not bad work but you will work hard and I don't know if they hire straight out of school. Teaming, if you have someone you can do it with, in my opinion is the best way to drive. You will be in demand and can almost have your pick of any company to work for but as the same time this is one of the hardest ways to drive and more importantly sleep.

Ha, the Beltway is kid poo poo now compared to 95 South between the Beltway (mile marker 170 I think?) and Exit 130 or so. Almost every weekday this whole year headed south and a lot of days headed north there's been nasty miles-long backups because they've closed all but one or two lanes in multiple places. Think running at night would help? Nope! It's all 24-hour work zones, same problems and same miles-long delays even at 3 am. At least they back it off a little during the rush hours, although usually they do it by loving the traffic even harder in the other direction. The best part is the lane closures have been producing 1000% more fender benders than usual, and they block even more traffic because there's no shoulders anywhere to move the vehicles to (or to get a tow truck through). gently caress my commute.

If I'm hearing correctly it still has air brakes too, which I find a bit interesting. Unless the air spitting noises are coming from something else.

I'm still slugging away at salt shakers, and it's really exacerbating my drinking problem. I should have taken a picture of the slack adjuster where I had to turn roughly half of it into liquid via O/A. Would have just cut the cam like normal but had to save the cam for a sample because my parts dept. refuses to order poo poo by VIN, which they ended up doing anyway because the front drive axle has different cams from the rears and I had already cut the other 3. Oh and they're 50% Western Stars, so let me tell you about seized P-clamps

My new truck has so many god damned issues it's like its trying out for Jerry Springer. Almost $140,000 buck dollar truck. Steering wheel isn't aligned Wheels aren't balanced Power ports aren't correct size, I eject my loving plugged in goodies all the time I have no idea why they put a sliding 5th wheel on it, trailer has to be all the way back to make weight on the steer axle. I'm only getting .3mpg better than my old truck, which is two gens before this engine. ISX twincam non DEF vs ISX singlecam "lowrev MUCHO TORQUE +++ DEF special" They must be using common core math to come up with the HP/TQ numbers Truck tries to burn itself to the ground while in regen. I have one hell of a shimmy at high speeds. TRIM loving FELL OFF, yeah, bodytrim on a new truck, took it for a loving drag. Already pissed out a gallon of coolant for no reason. BENDIX WINGMAN PROFESSIONAL BUTTFUCKING SYSTEM Cruise control doesn't work right. Random engine shake like the engine brake kicked on while under power. Qualcomm doesn't work at all, wait, that's a good thing, nevermind. I already figured out that I can gently caress with my omnitracs with that USB port. I will figure out how to run porn on it. Truck has an issue with watersports. You know those .3mpg I save with diesel? It drinks it in piss. That 2% DEF usage per gallon? BIGGEST loving LIE EVER TOLD. 120,000miles run with 20 fill-ups on a 20 gallon DEF tank? Yeah no. Also DEF weighs 9 pounds per loving gallon. Sweet. Oh yeah, also to improve mileage, they took away some of my gears. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kids in here with more gears in their sportscars I swear to god. I find my eyelid twitches a lot now.

Jesus, what kind of truck? I went and looked at the T880 and Pete 567 and it's pretty much my truck as imagined by paccar. It shares far more in common with my mack than most kenworths/peterbilts. The exchange rate is pretty loving painful right now so it's probably not an option, but we'll see how much work i can get this winter. I wouldn't deal with those kinds of problems, as it would be my truck, and i would have to give a poo poo

Yeah, international isn't even in the picture for me. I'd probably go 15 or 16 liter and 600/2050 through 3.90s or 4.30s as well. Even the hardest year is 60,000 miles, but the longest day is up and down the same gravel 12% grade 10 times.

Ah, that explains it. Doubly so if the VIN starts with the number 3. The last 4 years or so Navistar's QC has become a joke, even compared to their reputation prior to that. At least you didn't get one with a Maxxforce

Brakleen with toluene/xylene/ethylbenzene in it should take that off pretty quick. I hate the poo poo because it is full of nasty chemicals but it does work great on grease pencil. It may also take off the clearcoat, paint, and several layers of plastic under the grease pencil however.
