Something that rarely gets mentioned when talking about how much of a dick the kea is, is why they are nationally endangered. Most people assume it's shrinking habitat or changing climate. It's not, it's due to a century-long government bounty that only ended in the 1970s, that was initiated by farmers starting to find large bloody wounds on their livestock once keas figured out that livestock were essentially living meatboxes they could just tuck into during the night.
