If this thread is any indication, it'd be awful anyways. Zorak gassed the last VN thread so yeah.

On the topic of UBW anime, I for one am glad it's this particular route since it means more Lancer. Or as Carnival Phantasm put it, "Blue Tights Nii-san." :allears:

We did for about 4 years before the regulars in it ran out of good VNs to talk about and got really weird about it. But it also resulted in Nephilim being permabanned so I'd say it was ultimately a net positive.

Whether they fixed Shirou or not, this version is approximately a jillion times better than it was previously. Even if they did hike Tohsaka's tsundere ratio along with her skirt. Hope Shirou really is as less annoying as you guys say!

I wish, but she's being animated super cutesy too. that's what annoyed me more than anything, because it just feels so off for her.

But Archer still owns and the core relationship is there, so I guess Ill stop complaining about it now and deal with it.

Tohsaka is significantly less tsundere in the routes that aren't UBW in the first place.

Could someone clarify the concept of "routes" for me? I haven't played these, or any, VNs. Do they tell the same story, from different perspectives? Or are they same base story, with divergent plots? If so, is it a "few small differences that snowball to change everything" situation, or are they entirely different from the get go?

Edit: hopefully this goes without saying, but please keep your answers spoiler free.

Depends on the game really, but in F/SN its the "few small differences" one. Its all the same story, but the choices of the first few days cause the events of the rest of the game to change pretty wildly. It'll be easier to explain in an episode or two, when we can compare what's happened by then with how the same events played out in the route previously adapted.

The routes in FSN focus on these aspects:

1) Differences at certain points in time allowing for you to take a specific choice to get onto it. So you are on the mark for small difference cause a snowball for different events.
2) These changes somewhat make Shirou's ideals differ in each of the three routes.

For F/SN, there are three main routes (Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel) after the prologue where, as Blhue mentioned, things change pretty wildly depending on what the player chooses during the first few days.

Long story short, same base story, divergent plots, enough that there would have to be a Heaven's Feel movie. We'll see more once we get out of the introductory stage in the anime.

I'd note that you're forced to play those routes in order, so there's kindof a narrative structure that runs between them. Kindof.

Something that makes FSN relatively unique in this regard is that despite having three very different stories you have to proceed through them in a linear fashion. It allowed Nasu to do some pretty interesting things in terms of narrative and structure, and once UBW and the HF movie(s) are over it would be a very interesting discussion to have.

Everyone has been kinda only partially explaining this.

Fate/Stay Night is kinda like a really long choose your own adventure novel with 3 completely different routes or stories that lead to one of 5 actual good endings. There are also 40 different bad ends that happen if you pick bad choices during the choose your own adventure parts.

The three routes or stories in it are called;

Fate - Mainly about Saber.
Unlimited Blade Works - Mainly about Shirou.
Heavens Feel - Mainly about Sakura.

I should also point out that each story gets progressively more violent and Shirou gets progressively more badass.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the main choices that decides which of the three stories you will be on is decided pretty early on, it is a small number of choices that seem like a slightly inconsequential decisions that changes the story route completely.

I have no idea what I'm in for, since all of my knowledge comes from a Fate porn comic (and screenshots of bad sex scenes) that I read a couple of years ago.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but Fate stars a young man who swords so hard that he summons a girlfriend who is also a sword, gets into a pissing match with a bunch of wizards, fucks up trying to save everyone, and then has to kill a future version of himself who is basically Batman? Who comes back to kill him because he ended up turning himself into Captain Planet, and realizes he hates his new job?

I'm starting to wonder if the same people who enjoyed Fate/Zero are going to enjoy this. Fate/Zero had its funny scenes with Waver and Rider, but even those were vaguely developing their characters. Fate/Stay Night has a whole lot of scenes where Shirou just fucks around.

ufotable just condensed 3ish hours of content into one 45 min. episode, 90 if you count episode 1 which takes place during the same time frame. I'm sure we aren't going to see a lot more than the best of the "Shirou fucks around for a bit" scenes.

I don't see why properly tagged spoilers (especially when they're incomprehensible to someone who doesn't already know) are a problem. It's not like the JJBA anime thread where there's a manga/spoiler thread coexisting for people to talk about this stuff in, and Zorak's already nixed the possibility of a Type-Moon general thread, so just don't mouse over it if you're that worried about being spoiled. :shobon:

e: oh come the gently caress on, the only way that could possibly be decipherable is if you already know the relevant spoiler.

I do agree with you that if you don't want to know something then don't read the spoilers, but some people are dumb and will read them regardless and then complain that stuff was spoiled.

This thread is about the show, not the visual novel. People might make the completely insane leap of logic that the spoilers in the thread about the show were actually about the show and not from the visual novel and mouse over them. What loving morons right?
There isn't really any other place to discuss vn stuff, so if you're going to post spoilers from the visual novel in the thread about the show, at least clearly tag them so people who are caught up on the show, but haven't read the vn don't assume you were posting spoilers from the show.

What, exactly, do you consider "spoilers about the show" if discussing the original is a separate thing? I'm pretty sure stuff that's already aired doesn't have to be tagged anyways, and stuff that hasn't aired is functionally indistinguishable from talking about the VN.

e: nevermind, got ADTRW spoiler rules conflated with TVIV/BSS spoiler rules. Yeah, it's probably a good idea to mention that you're talking about stuff from the VN if necessary, though I think the earlier joke post is still fine since nobody going in blind is going to have a drat clue what he's talking about.

Yes I agree that you should label your spoilers appropriately, but most should understand that this show is based off an original material, and that some people in the thread have read said original material and might forget occasionally to properly label spoilers. I always label my own spoilers that are from further in the novel as "Novel Spoilers" but in other threads I have seen occasionally people who will complain that I spoiled something that I clearly labeled as "Novel Spoilers". I was mainly pointing out that some people can be a little daft at times.

TL;DR people sometimes are dumb (me included) and we should get back on topic.
