I think in the Clone Wars cartoon there were plenty of British accents in the Republic mixed in with the New Zealander clones. Besides, taking minor details from the movies as ultimate truth and expandinig upon it is what Star Wars is all about. Every weird-faced incidental character from the cantina and Jabba's palace has a back story, and Lucas got two movies and two sets of animated series out of a brief mention of there having been Clone Wars.

Who aside from Peter Cushing is a British bad guy in original Star Wars? It's an aesthetic for sure, but maybe the deliberate part is that all of the rebels sound southern-California American.

It does seem to be going for a similar aesthetic though. I don't know about the "aimless" part though, it seemed like it needed some kind of context that that clip didn't provide.

The art style also definitely feels like "Adventure Time, BUT..." in a way that I don't know nearly enough about art criticism to actually describe. Like if Stephen Universe was "Adventure Time, but anime", this is "Adventure Time, but English picture books".

Well Over the Garden Wall is a animated miniseries with apparently only 10 episodes so there is a little more to it than we've seen. But because its made by Patrick McHale and he's worked in FlapJack and the first five seasons of ADVENTURE TIME, including writing three STUPID INDIE SONGS FOR THAT SHOW than it must be objectively terrible.

The real trend I've been noticing is the use of cartoons to explore late-teens to early-adulthood angst through the medium of childhood whimsy and youthful innocence.
