Light Gun Man posted:Supernatural should have never had inter-brother drama or a story arc, just murdering poo poo forever. I like when they have the occasional episode where it's like "but this monster is actually good!" And then Dean kills them anyway. Although he did not murder a couple but he might have just come back to kill them when Sam wasn't looking.

Supernatural is basically The X-Files only with mythology and monsters instead of conspiracies and science, brotherly angst instead of sexual tension, and with the serialized storytelling actually being good and having a great arc with a satisfying conclusion instead of being pointless filler that goes nowhere. Also like X-Files it has a great sense of humor.

I really enjoyed You're Next. It's not a "scary" movie in any way, but it's a nice little twist on a home-invader type movie with some good dark humor. It's about a family that can always find the time to be petty and mean to each other.

Supernatural had an episode where the brothers were thrown into a world where they were the literal actors from Supernatural. It was amazing.

I just watched Rigor Mortis, which was a pretty bizarro Chinese film about a washed up actor who gets into some weird ghost poo poo in the seedy apartment complex he moves into. The finale is this weird kung-fu ghost-vampire-ninja showdown that surprisingly isn't that cheesy. Maybe check that out if you want a strange Chinese ghost story. I liked it a lot, but it might as well have been custom made for my interests. I also just watched House of the Devil, which I went into with VERY low expectations and loved. It's very Halloween; maybe not too "innovative," but very intense. I loved the main character instantly. Also Greta Gerwig is in it and I love her. I think tomorrow night it'll be Invasion of the Body Snatchers and maybe The Den. I still need to watch V/H/S 2, too.

priznat posted:Yeah I should have said Supernatural isn't about werewolves/vampires, it's about murdering the poo poo out of monsters. Some of which happen to be vamps etc. Yes, why did you say that! ... Dead in Tombstone (yes that Tombstone, as in OK Corral) has Mickey Rourke, Danny Trejo, Dina Meyer, and Anthony Michael Hall; so someone might be tempted to watch it because of them but just swallow that temptation and don't. I'm guessing they agreed to this in lieu of paying gambling debts. They put about as much effort into "Tombstone" as they might asking for a donut. Except Danny Trejo who is all in, probably because this movie gives him more dialogue than all his other movies combined and you'll soon figure out why those other movies were right and this one is wrong. I made it almost halfway by which point I was paying more attention to my laundry than the movie. If you are really curious what it is about, Danny Trejo leads a group of outlaws that double cross him for gold. (the real Tombstone had a silver mine, not gold, but whatever) Mickey Rourke plays Satan and also gets a lot of lines which he delivers with mild boredom. A.M. Hall is the "bad" bad guy. Dina Meyer is the sheriff's wife. About the only notable thing about D.i.Tombstone is that people are killed and their bodies just disappear from the shot, it's so obvious it's bizarre. There is no reason as far as I could tell other than sloppy movie making.

For what it's worth, I liked VHS2 better than the first. I thought the first was the better side of okay, with the first two segments being the strongest and the stupid camp tape-glitch monster the weakest. I thought the second benefited from only having fewer segments and I thought the low-points of 2 were about on par with the okay parts from the first one. Wrap-around segments don't count.

Other than the acting that is fun to watch, it really is a bit of a nothing of a film. If you want to watch Malkovich scream monotone for an entire film and Willem Dafoe appear to become an actual vampire, watch this.

3 days to kill is an alright movie. It's kevin kostner as a hitman who gets cancer and quits the cia or fbi to go develop a relationship with his estranged daughter and it spirals out of control from there. I thought it had some fun action moments and one or two chuckles at some of the attempts at comedy. I would rate it barely 3 stars by netflixes rating system.

I know it's been mentioned, but I just finished watching Bojack Horseman and it's fantastic. It is HARD to get into. I only barely stuck with it. The first six episodes are watchable but not much more than that, but it really picks up from there when you/the show itself realizes that it's really a talking animal cartoon about deep depression.

So I ended up watching and enjoying S1 of Hemlock Grove despite the vampire/werewolf thing, which really is a minor plot point most of the season. The secret to making S1 watchable is to fast forward through any scene with Norman Godfrey (the psychiatrist) because he's a terrible actor, a black hole of charisma, and has literally zero impact on the plot. Also fast forward sex scenes as they are all sterile, mechanical, gratuitous and boring. After the first couple episodes, fast forward any scene with Freya (weird brunette girl), she does impact the plot but is extremely boring until the final episode and actually is still pretty boring. Doing those things makes the show entirely watchable. S2 unfortunately is like watching your hair dry. Roman is the only interesting character and so far he hasn't done anything except act like a spoiled vampire bat, er... brat.

Has anyone seen "Witching&Bitching"? I just went to netflix' website and their front page has a teaser for this movie that's literally bare-chested jesus in a crown of thorns, leaning out of a car window with a shotgun. I have no loving clue what to expect because the blurb makes it sound like a botched-heist film involving witches. I'm almost afraid to try it on for size because that teaser image creates a pretty high bar for it to vault, in my mind.Wiggles Von Huggins posted:Grabbers is genuinely good.
