Payday is free free today right? I can 'claim' it now and download and play it later on like they did with Sniper Elite v2?

So Saints Row: Gat out of hell. It just popped up for me, and I hadn't heard a thing about this. Is this some sort of stand-alone game, or a really big DLC for saints row 4?

Standalone, afaik. But I didn't know it was up on Steam already...

No, it's free for the weekend and then it disappears unless you buy it. It's not free like the giveaways they've occasionally done where if you get it on the free day you have it forever. This is just a 'play for free' weekend deal with a few more games than usual.

Edit: Wait, hell you said Payday, not Payday 2. Yeah the first one's free.

This is true for payday 2. Payday 1 is free to get right now

So for XCOM is any of the other DLC worth getting, or just Enemy Within? I heard that Slingshot just gives you a "hip" "badass" character, which is what I really want in my squad-based tactics game

However I don't want to miss out if I need them for mods or something.

Dunno where you heard that, there's nothing "hip" about Zhang. I suppose he is meant to be badass, but he only has one brief cinematic and about 10 lines of dialogue. The new missions are ok and passing them gets you an early battleship to loot. If that doesn't strike your fancy, there's also a bunch of new hats to dress up your mans in - The other DLC, Elite soldier pack, also has a bunch of hats and armour customisation options.

Payday 2 had an update earlier this year to reduce the download size to 10GB or so. Also it's one of the few games that was worth the 30GB download. :smug:

You still need 30GB free for steam to even start the download though, so the update is worthless

Oh, I thought since hard drive space is a useless metric for anything anymore because hard drives are cheaper than dirt we were talking about what matters because of bandwidth caps.

This is wrong, because you want Community Weapon Pack 1 so you can get the Flare Revolvers which are great weapons, especially if you like to play Firebug.

The community weapon packs offer different weapons with different stats. All the other weapon packs (golden, camo, and neon) are reskins. The Community Content Bundle is $4.99 and has all three community weapon packs, plus neon weapon reskins and neon character (Skully and Foster) reskins.

Huh, well I guess I shouldn't be overly surprised at Tripwire reneging on things. In either case, it looks like the Community Weapon Pack(s) are the only ones that actually add weapons, the Neon, Gold and Camo packs are reskins of guns you get for free. My bad.

The creators of the Community Pack guns get a cut of the sales so that's cool, at least.

I cleared out a full TB of space on my Steam drive out of video games I haven't played in months. It was somehow liberating.

Even though I could use SAM, I keep games installed that might show up on Playfire just cause I actually do like to do achievements if there's a reward, like the summer camp gimmick from the old Steam summer sale a few years ago. So that's why my drive is that large. I also have games set aside that I plan to go back to, to do some of the sidequests and DLC content (Cold Cold Heart in Arkham Origins for example).

Luckily I do buy some games on Origin and uPlay so when those are done they can just be ripped off like a bandaid.

What year is this, 2008? SSD write cycles haven't been an issue for years. The OS is going to thrash the drive far more than a game will, in any case.

Furthermore, a Korean SSD enthusiast website used Iometer’s Endurance Test (2008) to push the limits
