Also, as a cis white male with lovely views on parts of the GBLT community with which he doesn't identify, Dan Savage is a pretty terrible person to name drop as the source of your information about this topic.

This might make sense if he wasn't wearing someone else's scalp and covered in blood. I don't think it matters too much whether he is in a clown suit or not at that point.

...of SCIENCE! posted:"There's no evidence that gay parents are worse than straight parents! " Yes, I'm going to have to jump on the Murphy gay rights tryhard train (and I'm gay as they come). It's really cringe-worthy sometimes how he tries to shoehorn "LGBT people are people too!"-type stuff into places where that dialogue is not needed. He's like that person in the back of Poli Sci 101 who constantly raises their hand to go on social justice rants intended to remind everyone to "check their privilege" before commenting on any kind of political issue. Like nearly 95% of AHS fans would disagree completely with the statement "Poofs are even lower than us freaks", so what was the point in putting it in there? What was the point, even, of making those three guys gay anyway? It served no purpose at all. Their sexuality contributed nothing to the scene. I do have to say that I loved Lana in S2 and she was my favorite character on the show thus far. Zachary Quinto's character in S1 was a bit too strange for me to appreciate (and it's the same with Kurt from Glee at this point). Maxy Boy posted:Why can't people realise that this show is meant to be camp / nonsensical / illogical and that's why it's so enjoyable? Oh and this too. Murphy is camp, plain and simple. Like, a sizable chunk of the last two episodes has been about the way that 1950's America represses sexuality. The weird ambiguous orgy/gangrape scene, which ends with her exulting about how she liked it, and a speech from Lange about how she was set free. The 1950's housewives and the dildo hands. The teenage couple that got murdered, off-handedly mentioning that he had to steal condoms. One twin is sexually open, the other is sexually repressed. And the scene in question involved a gay man was happy to finally be able to get hosed in the rear end and be with a woman at the same time. The whole season so far has been about the way a superficially civil 1950's America is sexually oppressive.

So I hear Emma Roberts is showing up soon. I guess I have to live with that. Not a big fan of her character last season. In general the actress just gets on my nerves. Although she was adorable as Nancy Drew years back.

I watch this show not for any sensical plot but for the individual scenes. If you try to make sense of the plot you're going a little far for something this campy. I'm loving it so far and find Twisty really the most interesting part so far. I also thought the music numbers were really well done and looking for historical accuracy in them is just taking the source material way too seriously.

I think people are getting tired of the super bitch trope in general. I've caught a little of that Red Band Society on FOX, and the cheerleader immediately insults the breath of the orderly wheeling her into the hospital, calls the anorexic girl "Skeletor," and hits the call button on the comatose kid's bed just to get someone to come and get her more water. And of course, her parents are away on a trip/business meeting when she's admitted and her heart is failing, so cue the sad face and the tough front and the classmates pitying her, etc. I was actually pretty impressed when they killed off Madison in episode 2, but it was only to have her come back and resume her bitchery without ever really gaining any character development. Her character this season seems no different and like it was included simply to give her a part.

It looks like Roberts' character has a much milder temperament this time around, but this is coming from a total starry-eyed stan, so we'll see when she actually shows up. Also... How did that guy get hosed in the rear end while loving Desiree in the vagina? I need a graph or something.

And....Ehh, let's hope this doesn't happen this season...I mean, no Lily Rabe plus Emma Roberts being just 'bitchy' as a character trait without anything else to define her would be really annoying. I think my favorite female characters so far are are Kathy Bates and that's pretty much it. Evan Peters is also wonderful, but that's not surprising. He's always got that quality in all his characters each season where I feel he just needs to be spooned for a while. Ladeled.

All the freakshow camp parts, at least. They're still filming this season because friends of mine see cast members around town and take orders for the whole cast at their jobs and stuff. So if that's the case, yeah, there are gonna be some geographical features specific to this area that they're gonna try and pass off as Florida. The only thing they care about is the name. We have a Jupiter and a Mars, want to bet that we get the other planets?

I got it. The next season will be set in Chicago , in the 20's. Murphy is going to redo Fosse's Chicago. I want Lily Rabe in a black wig as Velma Kelly. Sarah Paulson as Roxie. I want to see them do a new, horrific version of Cell Block Tango.

If they wanted to do something a little different (like a freak show set in Florida,) they could give an alien setting something like Marfa, Texas. The city is famed for the "Marfa lights" that appear in the sky east of it, ascribed to be UFOs, ghosts, Will-o'-the-wips, etc. It's also about an hour away from the Mexican border, so you could include some of that lore, like the chupacabra. Plus, an army airfield that served as a training facility for thousands of World War II pilots, including the chemical mortar battalions (potential for incidents, ghosts.) Minimalist Donald Judd also moved there in 1971 and began permanently installing his art beyond a museum, acquiring a military fort (perhaps he could be a side character, angering said ghosts.)

I live in Miami and there are places that were empty fields 15-20 years ago so I imagine Jupiter was not much to see 60 years ago (re: oysters saying it looks nothing like that). I don't know about the Spanish miss though. I also found the indian woman's violin hilarious because I want her to play it when people complain. Area 51 is a good direction but Murphy said specifically the first two episodes had clues. The first ep mentioned Jupiter and Mars and I'm sure every episode will continue to do so. Then again, Ryan Murphy.

It does seem like they'd do the SW next. New Mexico or Texas would be kind of perfect. Tying it all back to aliens would make sense. But I just can't imagine watching this show at all once Lange is gone. And Lily Rabe as well. As much as I love Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, they would be the only reason to keep watching, and I'm not sure they are enough. If the whole cast was a band, I'd say Paulson and Peters would be the bass players, with Rabe and Lange being the singers/guitarists.

I'm not going to lie, Ryan Murphy is not subtle AT ALL when it comes to "Freaks (by that I mean gay people) are people too!" in this show but at the very least he's using some internal tension (also, murder) in the group the Freaks have called a safe space to almost challenge the idea of one (I think that is what he's getting at). I love the camp of this show and, honestly, at this point Twisty the Clown is the reason why I'm watching because god drat is there some great dark comedy there (Why would you hire this guy to entertain your child? That's absurd). This is also my first season of AHS I have ever seen, I should note.
