Powershift posted:Cobalt are also the poster child of the kevorkianesque ignition switch recall. People view it as the most corvair-like and I wouldn't be surprised if dealers have piles of them sitting basically unsellable by now. There's a class action lawsuit spinning up for the increased depreciation that Cobalts are seeing as a result of this. Buying a grenade-like Hindenburg Cobalt and worrying about the depreciation must be like smoking a carton a day and worrying about lung cancer. You're toast.

To be fair being depreciated into the wrecking yard is a good thing for this Cobalt. It is literally the worst car I have ever driven and just falling apart horribly despite only being 8 years old and having ~120K. A 1997 Ford Escort base model is a better car to drive.

The Cobalt at least has the SS model to help keep the rest around for aspirational reasons (like the occasional base-model Chevelle you see driving around.) And also for parts car reasons. The K-cars had no such cool model to associate with. There were other hot Mopars, but not those afaik.

The solution to the Cobalt problem is to start a spec racing series. I would do it but I don't want to go down in history as a mass murderer.

Well, this happened at almost the worst possible time. Driving to Circuit of the Americas for some test laps this morning. Got on the freeway and up to speed then *BANG* *WOOSH* *CLATTER* CLATTER* *CLATTER*. I installed a new pusher fan to aid in cooling for parade duties earlier this week. Some jackass, me, apparently didn't tighten down the driver's side of the fan shroud all the way. This let the radiator drift back just enough for the mechanical fan to make contact with a radiator brace. This bent the fan blades which then could eat through the back of the radiator with all the force a 390 can bring to bear. The radiator went up in a cloud of coolant, steam, and sparks. The car didn't make it to CotA, but I did, thanks to some awesome friends who rescued me. The organizers understood the issue and asked if I could have her ready by the 2nd. "Hell, yes, I will. I'll have it fixed by this Wednesday. I've sunk a few grand into prepping the car just for this one day. I _will_ be there. I'll send you proof it's fixed by the end of the week." That was good enough for them. I did get to turn a couple slow parade laps in a friend's XC90. Not quite the same. I think I'll buy him a track map sticker for the rear of his Volvo. I mean, it _has_ turned laps at the track. For those wondering, I did find out I'll be ferrying around Filipe Massa on race day. Watch for us.

Don't mean to interrupt planechat, but I just wanted to share a dude I saw the other day on Westall Rd in Mulgrave, Melbourne, who looks like he may have forgotten to tighten up something on his Landcruiser. I figure he came around the left-turn a little hot, and the lack of load on the front-left made it let go. Click for original gently caress-off-enormous phone camera size. Also, this video is actually of a hard drive. The sound hasn't been doctored at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtk0zbJ8Aig
