Don't you tell me my business again.
Can we discuss the ACA here? Over the last 3 days have had to go to the ER, an Oncologist and a pain specialist, each referring me to the next, due to a degenerative condition in my spine that's basically left me unable to walk or to sleep without pain. Throughout, I had several problems with my insurance (BC/BS - what would cover what, etc.) There were posters in the office "demanding a second opinion on Health Care Reform depicting doctors with their hands tied and it was clear that the workers and the doctors were frustrated by the paper work and denial of coverage?

Their main complaint seemed to be the inability to do anything at all to help me without referrals, further tests and prior clearance. I wound up getting a steroid injection into my joint and having to pay out of pocket but I didn't care because I've never been in so much pain in my life and am basically disabled at the moment. It was obvious from their comments and feedback that they blamed the new rules and increased bureaucracy for these problems.

What am I missing here? Do they have a point?

TL/DR: Doctors and their workers seem to hate the ACA. Why?

Pretty sure none of that has to do with the ACA at all, it is all how insurance works and always has. The only way that the ACA is at fault at all is that it didn't offer a single payer/public option that might have been able to not have all the problems insurance companies provide.

All will be forgiven and he'll be back to being the rockstar he was before January, 2009. I'm looking forward to his being able to speak his mind on talk shows, that should be fun.

Cooler because he's unlikely to have a year equivalent to 2008 where he slips from "Cool Uncle" to "That One Uncle" and makes people really uncomfortable.

When I was filling out my form to make sure my insurance info was up to date at the eye doctor the other day there was giant bold text at the top that said MUST FILL OUT EVERY TIME DUE TO ACA (OBAMACARE) like that was supposed to make me upset. I've always had to fill out an info sheet every time, I don't think it was the ACA that did it.

I still see lots of guides on "How to survive Obamacare!" around here in Iowa being advertised.

The sad thing is that thanks to our wonderful media most people don't even know what "Obamacare" even does. All they know is the lies/hyperbole that the GOP has peddled since it was passed. I will admit that I am slightly curious how the GOP is going to spin it if they do manage to take both congress and the white house and repeal it(which I'm not sure they will have the option not to after running on it for so long, but then again most of the GOP supporters are basically sheep who will go along with whatever FOX and Rush say, so who knows), because getting rid of the PPACA is going to hurt a lot of people.

No maximums, no denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, have to cover children up to 26, the subsidies you mentioned, the insurance exchanges to make insurance available(and affordable) outside of employer-provided insurance, make the catastrophic coverage plans(that don't do anything, they are "pay us $x amount each month then we drop your rear end the moment you try to make a claim) illegal, among other things. Oh, and the medicaid expansion.

-Maximum out of pocket costs for patients
-Limiting insurance company profits

-Creating more integrated medical networks
-Medicaid expansion

Not sure what you mean by that. Pretty sure that the ACA itself didn't have much influence on the rise of high-deductible health plans, they were already getting popular because insurance companies realized they could make bank by dropping plans that actually covered stuff and instead had you pay monthly premiums and then pay for your own health care anyways, and employers bought into it because they offered them cheap(but strangely the employee part of the premium didn't drop, hmmmm).

Well it sounds like the things the GOP complains about are not actually part of the ACA and are just insurance companies being greedy, and the apparent solution would be even more government oversight.

ACA has a ton of things in it that are small but also will be impactful. Like ACA will soon require chain restaurants to put calorie counts on their menus.
