Seriously good selections, didn't get to catch all of kode9's set but Spinn & Taso had the crowd going wild. Lots of footwork battles. Scratch DVA also was playing some really heavy stuff. All around a great concert. I'm going to try to make it out to Om Unit.

Got booked to open for Om Unit (along with Encryption opening too), so now I'll definitely be there. Second room is a Car/Crash/Set showcase with Cosby (label owner, lives in the DC area now), and Vjuan Allure, plus Refugee & Tsurugi.

air- posted:I gotta sit down and read this entire thing sometime: It gets points for picking some pretty heavy duty tunes, rather than the obvious ones. Can't remember the last time I heard Don't U Wanna Be. That post-garage boom with the 4/4 thing produced some really great tracks that nobody except me and 7 others seemed to bother with. Shame really. Also that intro photo really makes me wish The Face mag would put up all their back issues up online. That and the Wire always made me feel like a smug prick when reading them. Those were days. Anyway since I've actually had some time to work through my backlog, I recommended the new Effy release on the always on point Infinite Machine. The remixes by Troy Gunner and Hound Scales do the job, I still prefer the original mixes of Move and Bourbon Switch. The former especially is a relentless techy pounder with a fantastic snare shot that would make El-B proud. And sneaking in the backdoor via Dego's legendary 2000Black Records is a 3-track maxi by Drew Lustman aka FaltyDL. A Thorough Study is some groovin' poo poo that'll keep you on your toes, it also gets reworked by Dego too. The flipside brings the jazzy groove to the club. Something for the Floating Points/Eglo Records crew.

Sir Spyro's got a promo track out for his new grime compilation that's free and good: https://soundcloud.com/mixmag-1/download-sir-spyro-chung-li Not sure if MixMag misspelled or if Spy is a fake Street Fighter fan; regardless, love to see more SF2 samples in grime. Also, Glacial Sound is finally putting out another release (although the bootleg's been around forever) with Riko Dan and Rabit teaming up for Black Dragons: https://soundcloud.com/glacial-sound/rabit-ft-riko-dan-black-dragons

Ola Ugh posted:That track reminds me of this Todd Edwards track I randomly found on his soundcloud recently, and which I had on repeat every day for two weeks: https://soundcloud.com/toddedwards3000/falling-one-dark-martian That's actually a Todd Edwards remix of a track by One Dark Martian, who was one of those still doing UKG after that popped, and after Grime and Dubstep came about. ODM definitely had a very big Todd Edwards influence in his work, though a lot did to some extent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppx1E9u876k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEDiFTYRET8 You've obviously got Todd Edwards himself, but everyone knows about him by now. Way too many tracks to talk it, both his and remixes. I'd be tempted to say as well to check out that whole mid-00s Stereohype circle at the time. Folk like ODM, Qualified, Sunship, Tuff Jam, Duncan Powell, Midnight Circus, Will Phillips, MJ Cole (post-Talkin' Loud records), Misty Dubs, the early True Tiger Recordings stuff, Scandalous Unlimited. The list goes on. Obviously not all youngheads there, your Tuff Jam, MJ Cole and Sunship's had been about forever by the mid-00s, however the youth especially tended to take a leaf or two out of the Todd Edwards rulebook. I know that's a long list, so I'll say take a wee shortcut and check out the last disc on EZ's Old Skool Pure Garage release for that general sound. The other 3 discs are all the old classics, but disc 4 was EZ mixing up all the newer stuff at the time. Not many of which got much attention - commercially or critically - as UKG had long been declared 'dead' by then with most eyes firmly on Dubstep. http://youtu.be/IJ0YmJfDH2Q?t=3h15m5s You may as well listen to the whole thing too while you're at it. EZ is still a fantastic DJ with a great ability to mix up really blatent tracks next to some super cool underground thing.

Sub.fm isn't a broadcast station afaik which is what he was asking for. Otherwise I don't see how being in London is relevant. EDIT: Which makes my NASTY FM suggestion worthless too.
