At this point, I'm wondering whether we're seeing the clown as the rest of the town sees him. For all we know, he looks like a totally normal clown. It would explain why the girl didn't run off at the first sight of him in the first episode.

Has anyone in the series commented on his appearance yet?

Come to me .... and live forever.
I agree that a prison setting would feel too much like Asylum, unless they really found a great story to tell around it. First thought is Alcatraz, but they just had that failed FOX show about it. Plus, I don't know if ghosts are their own are strong enough for the series given all we've gotten since season one.

What if they did something in Hawaii?

Can Chiklis just not do an accent or what? Someone talking "normal" was kind of weird to hear.

Now that I think about it, has anyone from the freak show acknowledged Twisty at all? His murder van is in the middle of nowhere, and from what I remember (don't have the time to rewatch the episodes) the only scene of him in proximity of any of the others is when they murder the cop, which he was just observing from a distance.

If he part of the troupe at all? His murder van looked overgrown with weeds and stuff, which would indicate that he's been there a lot longer than the others and that he's not part of the show.

He's not from the Freak Show. They didn't notice him when they were murdering the cop because they were too busy murdering a cop.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I realised that I'd made that assumption in the first episode and didn't question it until yesterday.

Ahh so she is just looking at him as a homeless bum (i.e. easy target). But what about the clown just walking down the road in broad daylight. He didn't even run away at the sound of an approaching car.

Also why didn't the clown kill Dandy? Fear of getting caught? That didn't stop him from committing multiple homicide in a main street shop.

Did you see the clown's eyes? While he may not be actually terrified by Dandy, he certainly has a huge look of "What the gently caress is wrong with you, boy?".

You think you can take me at Satan's Hollow? Go 'head on!
I kind of took it as Twisty being confused by a behavior he's never seen before. People are usually either terrified (most of the time) or amused (some of the time) by him, but it's the first time Twisty's ever seen someone react to him like he's a toy or a lapdog. Or maybe Twisty just "gets" that Dandy is as hosed up as he is and he wants no part of whatever crazy trip Dandy is on, so he knocks him out and bails.

I've come to the conclusion that AHS is like gossamer and one does not dissect gossamer.

Can Bernie count on you to add to our chest's mad sparkle? Can you spare a little change for an old buccaneer?
I kind of took it as Twisy felt acknowledged for once about someone really wanting to be entertained by him. And he had all those neat rear end toys in the chest too and wanted to share them. I think Twisty's character's weakness is that he wanted someone to give him that attention that he wanted, and he got it. And Dandy is just hosed up enough to appreciate the whole thing, which probably makes Twisty puzzled but also weirdly intrigued.
All speculation, I guess.

According to this interview, which has lots of other tidbits and borderline spoilers, there will be around 5 in total. Also, to tie into the other conversation, he says that Twisty's backstory and motivation will be explored in episode 4 next week.

Correction, actually "Edward Mordrake Pt. 1". Part 2 is next week.

And ugh I want Evan Peters to fall for Taissa Farmiga, not Emma Roberts. I mean granted, they're engaged in real life, so their chemistry will probably be good enough, but still.

I hope Emma Roberts' role consists of more than just 'pretty bitch'. From the pictures it looks like she's at least going to be cast in a beauty role. She's an attractive girl, no question, but I hope to see some more range for her part this season.
