What made Academia worse is that to 100% the game I'm fairly sure you need to revisit it at least once more to get something you couldn't get to the first time around, which means more encounters every step. I just don't get what the thought process was for that, it's a visually very beautiful area that's reminiscent of Blade Runner but you don't notice because you get into an encounter every second. Totally ruined the game for me, before that the game was stupid yet fun.

Type-0 is bad and making it a PS4 game isn't going to fix that, even with an analogue camera. That MH rip-off looks charming, but MH isn't especially attractive to everyone. If you think Academia is bad, you haven't played enough bad games. In fact, you might have only played the one bad game, FFXIII-2. That place is just a mere annoyance in the grand scheme of things.

They are more annoying things in FF XIII-2 than Academia, but most of them are optional (Casino) or can solved by using FAQs (quizzes) - Academia is not only mandatory, there's nothing you can do to make it less annoying. Talking about FF VIII the Armageddon Fist and Calamity Symphony (I think?) - someone on the Internet made an extremely obvious decision of linking Zell's LB not to the finishing move, but rather in a chain of faster and easier to input moves; on its own it's not something unusual, but I find the fact that the chains had gotten names and are now someone's legacy really funny. I think it's Punch Rush->Booya and Heel Drop->Mach Kick.

Sakurazuka posted:I've already been told that Type-0 is the worst game in the series, so we're off to a good start. Bravely Default 2 is kind of a FF game. Also, I don't see XV coming out in the West in 2015. Early 2016 is more likely. Oh, and FF IV on PSP kind of rocked. FF Type-0 would have worked fine as say a $40 but instead we get up scaled PSP game for $60. Schwartzcough posted:Nah, I'm gonna back him up on this. X-2 is 90% minigames, and they all suck. The rest is 7% "zany" characters and situations that are trying way too hard, and just end up obnoxious, and 3% actually fun battle system. Also, the story takes forever to start going anywhere at all (like, chapter 3 out of 5 I think?), and there are chapters devoted almost entirely to watching security camera footage. I honestly couldn't stand a lot of the music. Brother spends the whole time trying to sleep with his cousin, which is supposed to be "funny" I guess? And the whole system with completion percentages can just suck a dick, honestly. X-2 has a LOT of issues. This dude knows what's up. X-2 was a disappointment after X. The zany shut was annoying, assets was recycled, mini games were bad, and open world poo poo didn't do anything to correct major deficiencies with the game. I dig open world games and I have a ton of Bethesda, early Bioware and others. This is just not one of good games in the genre. Not that it stopped me from buying HD version on the Vita for X.

They reused assets in a game that takes place in all of the same locations. The most grievous of all sins. How can I enjoy a game when some things look the same? Momomo posted:I would say things like pregnant Lulu looking exactly like her former self was pretty lazy and terrible. A little lazy? Sure. I don't see how that affects most of the game since you literally see her for about five minutes and she is insignificant to the plot. Which is why they probably didn't bother making a new model. And whoever was complaining about the CommSpheres was making it sound like you have to spend hours upon hours, when in reality you can finish any of the required bits in like ten minutes. It is the shortest chapter by far. The only reason you'd have to do more is if you wanted more completion percentage, and that's on you. morallyobjected fucked around with this message at 17:58 on Oct 28, 2014 |

She can already light people on fire by waving her arms around, attacks with possibly possessed dolls and wears a dress made out of belts and fur in a tropical climate. Nothing about her actually makes sense so conversely her keeping the same model despite being pregnant actually makes sense ! I did like how it's possible for Wakka to never think of a name for the baby. Too many hits on the head while blitzballing.

Right, I mean recycled art assets in X-2 isn't a very big deal when they built an entirely new battle system (one that was significantly better than X's). Recycled assets in XIII-2 bummed me mostly because it's mechanically very very similar to XIII, and I had already done that for 40 hours. Which is why it's totally fine in Lightning Returns, since it's another radical mechanical departure.

How about those recycled art assets in that TAY. If I have to think of one big 'recycled assets' offender, it would probably be Dragon Age 2.

So I started a FF7 modded game. Difficulty mod, remastered music, high quality sound effects, most models redone, 1920x1080 resolution, high-res texture packs, cleaned up FMVs, a couple of assets from Crisis Core (small things like changing the save point to the Buster Sword), small sperg issues like renaming Fire2 to Fira, etc. There's even an option to remove Cait Sith from FMVs because nobody likes him. This is Cloud's field model (that I selected out of like 10 options): (got a little excited here, excuse the other layer) I've been waiting on a FF7 remake but fans kind of did it a long time ago. Couple of things: The quality and number of available selections for characters kind of depend on popularity. Cid, my favorite character, really doesn't have many options besides using his battle model as a field model. If you like Cait Sith, you're out of luck - he doesn't have poo poo. Cloud has like 10 different available models and even changes to be bloodied and beat-up if his health is low. A lot of the enemies aren't redone. Some of the bosses are, but most of the enemy models still just colored blocks. No new translation, so if FF7 confused you before, it's still as metaphysical and engrish as it was before.

It sounded like you were using Bootleg until you noted there was no new translation. Are you using 7th Heaven? I tried to use it but my poor old lovely comp can't handle it. I have Bootleg and there is definitely an option to use the ReTranslation. It takes a long, long time to install the mods, and you need to download 17 GB of stuff for all of them, but it's pretty awesome. http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.0 There is also Reunion http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14914.0 Finally, if you are using 7H, might I recommend the New Threat Mod http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14938.0 They are working on it being compatible with 7H. It was an awesome mod I just recently finished. About 100 hours of fun. I'll just quote myself describing it: quote:I can't recommend this enough. I just invested about 100 hours into this and do not regret it for a second. It's an amazing mod that delivers the following features: Also I didn't mention this in there but Bizarro Sephiroth ("Pinnacle Sephiroth" in this) is a huge pain in the rear end. You absolutely cannot defeat it without doing the whole three-party gig of destroying the Core Parts and then using your main party to destroy the main Core. I had beaten every superboss and stuff in the game with my party of Cloud/Yuffie/Aerith but Tifa, Barret, all of them were 20 levels behind, ha Level 1 Limit Breaks still and just...it was quite the problem and took creative use of my Materia to scrape a win. Also you get a secret boss and ending if you defeat the mod's superboss. The dude who made the mod is also working on a New Game + feature.

Yeah I tried playing the PC version of FF7 using these models, but they just got boring to use after a point. The only ones I kinda like where the person was just redoing the chibi characters in more normal looking shapes, but they are not super detail and don't clash too much with the really grainy looking backgrounds (which I really wish someone could find a way to make those better looking). Even then this still isn't that great and I just ended up playing the PS1 version on the Vita instead.

ReTranslation is under the Menu Overhaul tab I think. There is also even an option for using Canon Names so you will have Reno instead of Leno. And this is 7th Heaven http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15520.0 It's much simpler to get everything set up than Bootleg. Also you might not want to combine the New Threat Mod with Bootleg. I had no problems with it really until the end of the game. For some reason, the combined mods made the the sidequests not trigger and it was a pain fixing it.
