I ask since I was leaning toward Hitbox too, being able to archive videos and all that; but it doesn't seem like there's much of a community there.

Hitbox is better if you want a usable service and archiving, though it can be glitchy at times. It also doesn't have a heinous delay. Twitch is better if you want a 'community', though if you're on SA you already have a community just in case you didn't realize that.

I'm only on Twitch when I'm on the PS4 because it doesn't have the option to stream to Hitbox, and the Hauppage box is a) terrible, and b) still wired up to the PS3. Twitch seems to use some sort of stream priority system - basically the more people you have the better it seems to run. Hitbox may do the same thing, but it's not as jarring for the smaller streamers.

One downside of Hitbox is that it doesn't have a quality button that works, at the moment they are halfway into implementing it and so for now the only selection for viewers is 'Best Quality' which means source quality. If you are streaming in a pretty high quality, people with bad internet connections won't be able to watch you because it'll appear stuttery and unstable for them even if there are no problems at all on your end. Still, Hitbox has that lil ol benefit of not being Twitch.tv, so that makes it worth the downsides in my opinion.
