The Punchsport Pagoda as we know it now, used to be known as WrestleHut2K. Since then, UFC did a thing and Dana White kissed some babies or whatever and so now this forum covers fake fighting on top of real pro wrestling. Anyway, I thought it might be fun to look back at some old GDTs of the past and highlight some of the best and worst posts from those threads. It's always fun to look back at kneejerk reactions with hindsight, so that's essentially the point of this. Here's the reactions after some guy who just came off a TNA stint where he was treated as a total nobody beat Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP title at New Beginning 2012. No offense is intended to anyone quoted, I didn't even start following NJPW until later in the year and it's understandable how people were really perplexed at that time. The Bushiroad sale had just gone through and the rebound was still in its infancy. It's just funny with the benefit of hindsight. Lloyd Boner posted:Okada beat Tanahashi for the title. gently caress that. Flameingblack posted:Tanahashi is still the champion of my heart HulkaMatt posted:I think its a really weird move. NotQuiteQuentin posted:Could Tozawa not winning also be reflected on how poorly Ryo Saito was over as Dream Gate champ? It seems like they are giving him a slow but steady build. First the minor tourney, tag straps, leading group. Next seems to be King of Gate. DirtyDirtySheets posted:Okada winning was too silly not to happen.I haven't asked anyone in Japan if people actually give a poo poo about Okada but thankfully, they probably have no details on what he was actually doing in TNA. Wrestlehut 2006 predicts the future of the WWE:Lid posted:Orton is less a lock than I consider because he's erratic. He's essentially a main eventing Teddy Hart and survives on that they need him. He may clean up his act with maturity, but he has serious problems right now. Chief Rebel Angel posted:CM Punk is awesome and everything, but I'm starting to believe more and more the theory that the WWE only picked him up so that TNA wouldn't get him, and have no plans to use him on national TV without repackaging him as something Vince can call his own in order to turn him into a true WWE property. HPL posted:As far as future stars goes, everyone at WWE seems to be pretty high on Harry Smith, so I would expect that he'd get a fair bit of a push when it comes time for him to shine. Too bad they won't be pairing him up with TJ Wilson again because that would be an awesome combination. Spikeguy posted:My picks for future main eventers are Bobby Lashley, Carlito, and Kennedy. MrManson posted:CM Punk, Kenny Doane, Carlito & Lashley. All of these guys, to some extent, have the tools to main event for years to come. My money's going on Doane though, as WWE seem real high on him, he's talented as hell, has good charisma and doesn't have a trademarked logo on his arm.

Wrestlemania 20 - March 14, 2004. The main event is HHH vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit. Daryl Surat posted:Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels vs Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship-- I predict this match is going to play last. Michaels has a torn ACL, and while he did work Wrestlemania with what was essentially a broken back, that was over half a decade ago. He's older, more banged-up, and quite frankly I don't think he has any business even being in this match period. Well it's nice to view this stuff with the benefit of hindsight. I don't think anybody should try and look back on it as the opinions being necessarily silly or stupid, or trying to be vindictive or do something idiotic like "call out" a poster on prior opinions. The quotes are very much products of their time and in many cases enormously justified even if they turned out to be completely wrong. It's just fun to look back on things where we now know how things DID work out, and how people initially thought they might go.

Yeah, I'm sure there were plenty of people (including myself) who HOPED that Shield would be booked well, but only the most maddeningly positive person could have possibly predicted they'd basically be booked to near perfection for well over a year. Hell, even their break-up was enormously well handled, and immediately followed their utter and undeniable domination of Triple H's pet 4-Horsemen knock-off (I really like Evolution, but I think even Triple H would admit that's exactly what they are).
