Mutable Instruments make the MIDIpal which can do some sequencing tricks (most notably a SH-101 style step sequencer). I use the sequencer in my KORG EMX-1 on many other instruments as well.

One thought though (and this isn't based on any experience fundraising, it's just something to think about): A christmas album will have a limited-time appeal. People are prob going to stop buying it in January. However it might get a lot of attention/purchases real fast. A non-Christmas album would work outside of the festive period and could raise money over a longer period of time... but the total value might be less. Anybody have any thoughts/experience with that?

toadee posted:So uhh, what's everyone's favorite Eurorack sequencer? I swear there are way way too many options in the Euro world these days but I'm going to be doing some carpentry here in a bit to build a keyboard tray under my MU modular to get my keyboards off the top of it, which will then free up space to build a few hundred HP of space for Euro stuff. Problem is, aside from an Expert Sleepers interface ( or two? ), I can't make heads of tails of the approximately 300 trillion varieties of everything in Euro. Seriously anyone planning on: I picked up an Orbitals thats quite nice. Its 16 steps and will ping pong/reverse. Now that the Audio Damage Sequencer 1 is out people are dumping them, so a used one is pretty easy to find. That Rene is pretty cool too but might be overkill. I'm finding that I'm starting to buy a lot of Make Noise stuff. Shits killer.

Ive been mainly eying the TipTop Z3000, and the Rene. Anything cool/microtonal on the quantizer front? Can't someone just make a thing that is like "OK, of the 400 modules that do this, here are the 5 that people actually use"? e: Oh god, the RS370 Poly Harmonic Generator. Anyone recommend good places to gauge interest in a vintage MemoryMoog ("non-plus")? I'm trying to avoid ebay like the plague, and so far I've received an offer from a guy in Sweden and a low ball offer but I know there's gotta be some obscure synthy corners of the internet where synth hording wizards salivate for olde synths..?
|
# ? Nov 6, 2014 01:34 |

I'd always try to sell it locally. Here in the Netherlands there are a couple of specialised online synth communities that have buy/sell threads, where you attract the right crowd and people are generally informed about the normal prices for vintage equipment, so no lowballin'. It's pretty much the go to place if you're looking for for semi-rare synths like Minimoogs, ELKA's, JP-8's etc, I've bought my 909 and Juno-60 from those listings. Isn't there something like that where you live?

Craigslist, your regional Analog Heaven Mailing List, muffs, VSE. Realize you've got kind of an albatross there. They're not known for being especially reliable and lots of more popular machines use the chips its got. Dudes sniffing around for one are very likely going to be looking for spares for their own, or to strip it for something else. Unless it's stone mint/restored/LAMM upgraded you're going to have to be patient for a buyer and realistic in your asking price. That goes for a lot of vintage gear but especially things like that. I personally wouldn't ship one.

Gah, I think I'm adding the Electribe 2 to my "might be the next thing I buy" list. It's something portable I could play live on and it does a lot of the things I'm looking for. It' doesn't look as flexible as far as sound creation goes compared to a lot of proper synths but it still does a lot. And I'd still get to keep my Korg fanboy star.

I've been thinking about picking up a drum machine or something. I keep looking at the Machinedrum because I love having all the steps right there, though that's probably excessive for me. Partly it's because I want something I can just curl up in bed and play with, partly because I feel like I don't have anything that lets me just slowly build up patterns and improvise with. Maybe the new Electribe would be a decent option.

Analog Heaven ML != analog haven the store. AHML is old old old. I've had luck trading there. Haven't dealt with AH the store but I've only heard praise so I'm surprised. I make it a rule not to buy new modules. Muffs would probably get you the most interest but you need 100 posts to sell. Craig's isn't bad to be honest because people who are looking for what you've got will likely have some rather broad search alerts up. Comedy option- go see what Music Go Round would give if you've got a local one.

Reverb.com is pretty cool, they're mostly for guitars and amps though but there have a smaller syntheiszer/keyboard section. Can fetch a decent price but they don't have a huge user base compared to other sites.

Flipperwaldt posted:Yeah, I've been staring at those lists for a while and couldn't really parse it. The filters thing I missed and is a bit of a bummer. If otherwise the synth engine really is the same and it's just a matter of exchanging (some/most) factory pcm for user samples, then the electribe sampler is decidedly the better deal for me. I don't think the lists cover all the difference, but my suspicion is that there are a lot less oscillators on the sample. I could be wrong though. Maybe it has all the same VA oscillators, I dunno.

I haven't seen any demos of the sampler yet either, but there have been several for the synth version (which looks rad as hell). In other news, I ordered an Ultranova. babby's first synth.

I'm just going to have to wait until it's out, I think. As long as I can stick in a one note sample with a loop in it, put a filter on top and play music with that, the sampler is the cool one in my book and I won't mourn the loss of presets and onboard oscillator types. Add the sequencer and some built in VA type engine that isn't too constricted and we're cooking. If on the other hand it's too much drumloop oriented, I really couldn't care less for it.

Any clue on space/time constraints for the Electribe sampler? I thought I saw it took SD cards, so hopefully it's not a concern. Curious to see what the Ableton export looks like too. More specifically what I can pull from it for non Ableton use. e: quote:There can be up to a total of 999 preset and user samples, and a maximum of 270 seconds of sampling time (calculated as monaural) can be used.
