Blasmeister posted:It seems crazy to me that neither side would have planned for the network launch when they signed this deal in the first place - WWE to be sure launching the network wouldn't violate the contract, or Sky not having planned ahead and made a deal with the already announced network in mind. Meltzer noted on today's Observer podcast that Sky WERE aware the Network would be a thing, but at the time of the TV deal, it was supposed to launch in 2015. Sounds like one of the big sticking points is Survivor Series. Sky are already advertising it as a PPV, and WWE weren't just undercutting, they were going to give it away.

If we get the full network by 2015 fine i can take that I don't want it as an on demand service like the canadian version as it'll be so watered down and lacking it won't be worth it. Neither side is looking good at the moment for differing reasons.

BigHandsVince posted:For someone more technically minded than me, is blocking people using VPN possible? yeah, blacklist the VPN provider's USA endpoints and make it a ToS violation to use VPN software to access the Network via VPN software. Which is the part I don't get. If the WWE wanted to have huge subscription numbers, make that poo poo available globally from day 1. If the service sucks for a country, make it a big deal you're going to roll out a localized service. Trying to get The Network as a channel on existing TV providers is an unworkable pipedream, anyway.

Oh, I don't doubt that that second statement's accurate, in that Sky didn't explicitly TELL WWE to pull it, but I don't believe for a second they're not involved with the reason why it happened. It'd be idiotic for Sky to admit that they had a hand in it, especially if the outcome is going to be a worse service for a higher price. All these years and it's still the best wrestling news site. It's the cleanest to look at, the easiest to read with the white text on black background, loads the fastest, and has the least amount of ads. Look at how ugly these are http://www.pwtorch.com http://www.prowrestling.com Compare them to http://rajah.com

Watched Hog Wild and I now get how the NWO took over WCW. WCW is just that dumb. What is up with the finish from the Sting/Luger vs Outsiders match? What the hell is up with that finish? Did they really expect people to buy the ref hitting Luger by accident? Also the main event was awful. Could Hogan just not move back then? That match was mostly stalling and wristlocks. And no one tried to stop Hall and Nash from interfering? I mean, Giant was in an actual faction then. So none of the other members of the Dungeon of Doom even tried to back him up. And lol at Giant being down for like 10 minutes from being hit in the head with the belt.

Huh, they put up a video of Vince personally apologising for the UK delay. Only viewable if your IP says you're from here, and the video's pretty much Vince using more words to say what the original article on WWE.com did, but it's interesting. They must've gotten a LOT of negativity.

They survey asked how passionate you were about WWE, then had trivia questions with stuff like photos and identifying wrestlers. I'm guessing that you're not really hardcore unless you know who Zach Ryder is.

Where's our apology video for sticking Canada with a lovely gimped version of the Network only available from a cable provider that doesn't even do business west of Ontario. Maybe the next step is to force the lovely cable channel on everyone stateside west of Minnesota.

Australia should count itself lucky it managed to get the proper Network considering the pay TV provider here is an overpriced Murdoch-owned monopoly, and was previously also the only way to get Raw etc and PPVs as far as I know.
