If there were substantial content hidden behind the amiibos, people would (probably rightfully) complain about having to buy specific amiibos for content. I don't see the harm in games having simple content that doesn't really affect the game.

As one of the few people that uses a Mii, that seems pretty cool and I'm glad it's not something more substantial so people that don't want an amiibo feel burned. Now I have to get a Captain Falcon one.

Yeah at this point I'd assume every serious Mario Kart 8 player has bought the DLC already. I really hope Link is a Cruiser or Heavy weight and that the Blue Falcon's stats don't suck, I want to main as both of them.

Yeah, I NEVER buy multiplayer non-story DLC. And everyone I know who has Mario kart has reserved the DLC - casual or more seriously competitive alike. This won't split the userbase much at all. I'm getting it for local multiplayer though. I can't seem to figure out how to get a tournament working in mario kart 8 at all. Is tournament mode really the only way to just do a standard 4 level grand prix style comp with others?

It would probably make more sense to have a mandatory patch that allows the game to recognize DLC content (characters and vehicles), even if that particular copy of the game doesn't have access to said DLC content.

That'll obviously come with the DLC release. When they allowed you to buy it ahead of time and you could unlock the yoshi and shy guy colors, I didn't buy it yet but could still see the different yoshi/shy guy colors. I want them to add in a thing to allow us to pain the cars. I'd really like all my vehicles to be red or pink no matter which character I pick. This is especially true for the free DLC cars released recently where they're just silver

The GLA changes color, and silver is kinda the official color for Mercedes Benz. But yeah, I too would love it if more of the kart bodies changed color to match the character you are using. Speaking of color, I doubt this will happen, but it would be neat if Link was available in different colored tunics as well.
