We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.
Just to repeat one response to this particular talking point, the "Johns Hopkins scientist" was an anthropologist who completed an unrelated research fellowship there at one point in the past, who has no credentials in any relevant field. His report "published in BMJ" was basically in their op-ed section, which isn't subject to any sort of review or editing.

Yeah, those loving liberals, can't read the bible and poo poo. Look what it really says!

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
...

Oh. Well poo poo, I guess it does literally say "no seriously deal with your own failings first, if some one asks for something just give it to them don't try to gently caress with them, treat people like you want to be treated, and if you intentionally do bad things I'm not just going to let you into Heaven 'cuz you asked real nice like."

O hey! I noticed we're on the topic of social programs (surprise) SO here's another on-point forward I got that is trying to spread the "seed of
awareness" by sending totally screwed up facts of how Social Security was originally supposed to work.

quote:

Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and
Card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the
United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION was removed.

An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message. [there was an image here, but the link was broken]
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1) That participation in the Program would be
completely voluntary,

No longer Voluntary

2) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
incomes into the Program,

Now 7.65%
On the first $90,000.

3) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,

No longer tax deductible

4) That the money the participants put in went to the
Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
General Operating Fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,

Under Johnson the money was moved to
The General Fund and spent.

5) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed
as income.

Under Clinton & Gore
up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away -- you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
General Fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically
controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start
giving annuity payments to immigrants?
(AND MY FAVORITE):

A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA),
the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans
want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of
awareness will be planted and maybe changes will
evolve.
But it's worth a try.
How many people can YOU send this to?
Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

I've decided to just reply all with gentle debunking. I can't help it, I feel it is my duty to plant small seeds of actual facts. I didn't even have to use Snopes.com ('cause you snopes is just written off as liberal trash by old people). Nope, the Social Security Government website actually has an article debunking almost all of these things this e-mail purports. http://www.ssa.gov/history/InternetMyths.html Kind of funny!

Plus the bit about immigrants "stealing social security! blarg!" is wrong too, that's Supplemental Security Income. Not financed the same way. And if people are really going to get mad about old immigrants getting just enough money to survive then wow, I guess that explains that deep chasm where their heart is supposed to be. I guess when immigrant families come over they should leave grandma behind (lol, who am I kidding? Conservatives don't want immigrants period)

And I don't quite get the beginning part. Are we supposed to be mad that we use our SSN as identification now?

If it's a conflict of interest for people receiving welfare to vote because they're presumably going to vote in people to keep the welfare gravy train going, it's just as much of a conflict of interest for people paying taxes to vote because they're presumably going to vote in people who are going to lower their taxes.

Report: Apocalypse Actually Happened 3 Years Ago

MENLO PARK, CA — Though the event went largely unremarked upon at the time, a report published Monday by the Kaiser Family Foundation has found that the apocalypse, or end of the world, occurred three years ago. "According to our data, the total collapse of all human civilization occurred on or around April 3, 2008," said foundation representative Jodie Palmenterri, citing numerous instances of environmental disaster, humanitarian catastrophe, and economic ruin as unambiguous signs that the world had ended. "Those who have worried for years that human culture was headed toward calamity can rest easy, because it already happened. We are living in a postapocalyptic world. This is it." Palmenterri went on to say that because the apocalypse does not resemble the eschatological predictions of any major religion, it's safe to assume the gods have all forsaken us.
