raditts posted:Why do they remake FF1 so much when it's still not that good of a game even with QOL improvements? Specifically in this case because the release of Explorers coincides with the anniversary when FF1 was released. And I'm sure if 1 sells decently on the eshop they'll probably give us the ports of the other NES titles at some point as well. If you can count on one thing from Squeenix it's that eventually they will put FFs 1-6 on every system ever.

Is there any way to turn off Spotpass notifications for new themes being released? I find it really obnoxious for Nintendo to push out notifications (and light up the 3DS) every time they want me to spend more money.

Open the theme notification, tap "opt out of notifications for this software" at the very bottom?

For a game that only runs in 2D, Final Fantasy Explorers is pretty shockingly ugly - it looks more like a DS game than a 3DS game.

I've always wanted a hunting action game from SE in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics or something along those lines, but it just doesn't look all that good. There was Lord of Arcana for the PSP, and its remake for the Vita (I think they changed the name to Lord of Arena or something for the remake and that never came out in English). It hit right at the end of the PSPs lifetime in the US and it was pretty mediocre. The introductory levels were all good fun, taking out goblins and assuming everything was going to be easy, then suddenly you're fighting Ifrit for your first big boss battle and unless you absolutely master the attack reflect and timed dodge/parry system and all his movement patterns that battle becomes an hour long slog as you chase him around and try not to die from his ranged attacks. So the learning curve is pretty steep right from the first boss. But it's kind of sad how much better it looks than Explorers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8hXiaOthjQ

I've played the Lord games and they're both mediocre but yeah they still look better than Explorers somehow. They're still not the kind of FF-inspired hunting action game I was really hoping for, just a lot of grimdark fantasy crap with Bahamut in it sometimes.

I haven't watched any of the more recent FF Explorers footage but it seemed like they were going for a more PSO-style lootgame thing as opposed to a MH clone. Meanwhile, PSO is getting a MH-esque spinoff for Vita because every Japanese publisher on the planet is convinced they're the one that will be able to fill the hole Capcom left behind when they jumped to 3DS even though there are already dozens of 'em and noone cares.

I've played both demos for Phantasy Star Nova and I really don't get the hunting action comparison. It plays like an advanced version of PSO 2 and has pretty much everything PSO 2 and PSP 2 had going on, only every once in awhile you fight a monster a little bigger than the monsters you fight in PSO 2/PSP 2.
