Former PRIDE boss Sakakibara was at the Bellator show last night, Coker says he's been having talks with him. I know there's a NYE show in Japan this year but there's no way they put together a card anyone wants to see, and there's no way anyone in Japan can get on TV, and even if they do nobody cares anymore. What's going on?

Scott Coker is exactly what would happen if someone gave a goon a large amount of money and told them to run an MMA promotion.

false, I'd have Genki Sudo be the Lord Executor of the promotion watching all fights from an elevated platform that doubles as a time travel device while he is flanked by the World Order

The Bellator show Saturday night set a ratings, gate, and attendance record for Bellator. 1.8 million viewers for Tito/Bonnar (the fight itself), but may have peaked at 2 million. Number two MMA show in all of TV for 2014 and number two for its timeslot in the 18-49 demo. In other words, it was a massive success.

What's going on? Probably completely unrelated to Sakakibara because an actual big TV company is involved, but Lmfao quote:The new promotion is called "Ganryujima," which is named after a small Japanese island best known as the site of a duel to the death in 1612 between legendary master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (who the former kickboxer was named after) and Sasaki Kojiro. In more recent times, the island was used for televised pro wrestling spectacular grudge matches held without a ring or cage, known as Jungle Death matches. it's the loving original elite xc concept in a sumo ring

I was saying that the Bellator card had more star power than the UFC PPV and it looks like that was reflected in ratings so I'm not disagreeing, it's just that I get that building guys up and creating name fighters is hard so I can tolerate the bad UFC shilling

i think the shilling has become detrimental because every single guy is supposedly so good, then half of them fight like total poo poo, so a casual viewer is just like, all these guys are good but being good at mma actually sucks. I am actually surprised that many people watching Tito v Bonnar since both guys are so washed up

Washed up, sure Still have more name recognition than like everything but the top 2-3 fights on the majority of UFC cards and they don't have the audacity to charge 60$ to watch a stupid fight i.e. chris cariaso

UFC is definitely selling total poo poo right now. I can barely bring myself to watch even the relatively good cards. I can't watch B league anymore either because most the fighters Id be interested in are basically outclassing every guy they fight, and Ive just reached a threshold for enjoying bad MMA in my life. I check out really good matches like chandler v alvarez but thats about it.

bellator averaged 1.2 million, which would put it at a tie for the 21st most watched ufc prelim. i don't know how much promotional effort was put towards the show, but when you consider the costs associated with it + the fact that there was no ppv afterwards to actually make the lions share of hte money its sort of silly to consider it a major success. spiketv cards get better viewership than fox sports cards, for a bunch of reasons and very few of htem have anything to do with product quality. plus spiketv advertising dollars are worth far less than fs1 dollars
