I'm interested less about the history of an era and more about the stories behind the people, but I'm totally up for anything if it's good. I'm not sure how many pages back you read before posting but As the Palaces Burn is a documentary about the metal band Lamb of God. It intended to be a generic "on the road" documentary but quickly got turned on it's head when the lead singer got arrested in Czech Republic for the death of a fan.

Anyone heard of a documentary called "No No" about a dude named Doc Ellis who pitched a no-hitter in the 70's while tripping on acid? It looks really interesting but I don't see it on Netflix. As someone who possessed superhuman basketball and pool shooting skills while tripping, I'm anxious to see the film's take on it. Intuition says you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn while on LSD but on more than one occasion, the other side of my brain took over and I was unstoppable.

Has anyone else pitched a no hitter with that many walks? A quick Google search gives me this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/share.cgi?id=ESrS So maybe I'm wrong there. But two things: there's some pretty big names on that list (Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Jack Morris, Jim Palmer, Sandy Koufax) . Also, why would he lie about it and make it up? Just to sell books? Maybe. Like I said, as someone who seriously was able to shoot pool and drain three pointers well beyond my normal abilities, I'm inclined to believe it.

LSD was one of the drugs in that chemical cocktail that the mumbai terrorists took before they did their business. Then again I think shooting is probably an overall easier task than pitching in the strike zone in major league baseball.

Just watched the new Netflix documentary Virunga last night and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's about a huge and stunningly beautiful nature preserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo most notable for its large population of endangered mountain gorillas. After oil reserves are discovered in the park, it becomes the target of two factions in an escalating and complex conflict: a British oil company and a rebel group bent on overthrowing the government. The film itself focuses on a handful of protagonists, including a child soldier turned game warden, a young French journalist, a keeper of orphaned gorillas, and a Belgian prince primatologist determined to save the park. It's incredibly gripping, saddening, and infuriating, and one of those remarkable documentaries which makes you feel like you're truly witnessing something historic unfold. I can't recommend it highly enough (plus it's available on Netflix, so it's easy to watch).

Anyone have any recommendations for documentaries on American football, focussed more on coaching/behind the scenes stuff rather than specific games? So not films like Harvard Beats Yale, but rather The U or Undefeated. With one caveat: that it not be part of ESPN's 30 for 30, because I know about those Any level from high school to pro.

See if you can find Go Tigers! the story of highschool football in Massillon, Ohio. Football is a religion to this town and their highschool team almost rivals college teams in the level they train and play at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9tGclyb1MQ Also this Frontline episode on highschool football is a good one: http://video.pbs.org/video/1880045332/

Don't let that doc fool you though, for all the passion that the Massillon Tigers inspire, they have never won a state championship since Ohio began the playoff era. They're kind of a laughing-stock in NE Ohio except they're not in on the joke.

The simplest thing you could say is that it benefits an awful lot of people to maintain instability and weak states in Central Africa, and it's complex because a lot of the weak actors in that region see it that way, as well.

You hear these stories about JFK being an opiate and speed addict, Hitler being cranked up all the time, etc. It would be interesting to see something that goes in depth about that. Ideally I'd like something that covers different eras and cultures, but wouldn't be averse to stuff that focuses on a particular group or time. Thanks.
