Mine works surprisingly well. I think I've only missed a stud once and it was in a non-standard stud spacing area so I knew it would be a guess. The key to using them is to start from one side and mark where it first beeps. Then go from the other side and mark where it first beeps, then put your nail/screw right in the middle.

Well if you find one in GR that isn't Comcast or ATT please let me know!

I'm quick to blame Comcast, but not entirely sure that's the issue. Everything went to poo poo a couple months ago when they announced a speed upgrade and I think they might have pushed a firmware or settings update to my modem. The issue is that I have phone+internet through them so I'm stuck with using their VOIP modem. I've swapped modems with them once and it's still an issue. The other thought is that an Apple Airport firmware update may be causing an issue working with the VOIP modem. I might try hooking up an old modem to see if that fixes it. I have full WiFi bars but internet goes out and slows down intermittently.

I really hope it's an issue with Comcast because while I've had an amazing run with Apple's Airport gear, I'm open to the thought that Apple's glory days are over and they've hosed up. I have a huge investment in the equipment (Airport Extreme, two Time Capsules, five Airport Expresses) so it would suck to replace everything.

Standard stud spacing is 16", so you're always within 8" of the nearest stud....

No you are not stuck. I live in GR and have Comcast with phone and internet. Buy yourself one of these. You can get a used one for under $100. They pay for themselves pretty quick too because you wont pay the $7-8 a month rental fee.

The issue is that the Arris modem doesn't play nice with Apple's Airport. I think I may have just solved it by using a splitter and using the Arris just for telephone and a Surfboard 3.0 for internet. We'll see how it goes. Also, when did we get so many GR goons?

As to not make this Tech Support thread jack, I'll catch up with some purchases.

Cheese and Charcuterie from Reserve

A new grille for my mom's Jetta wagon. She somehow ran into a tow hitch while parking and punched a hole in the old one. Took two months to get but I saved $200 by going with a shady Chinese seller.

Tennis balls, hooks and string. Sometimes the old school way works the best. No more running into the garage curb/wall.

Vanilla-infused thick-cut bacon from Reserve.

A shirt from Jack Spade. I love when the pattern is stitched instead of printed.

Queen-sized Hudson Bay blanket for myself and cat.

Chicken and waffles from Electric Cheetah

Peanut Butter cookies for the raccoons

Canon TS-E 45/2.8. I've recently picked up the TS-E 90 to complete the set but haven't shot a pic of it.

A bottle of Virtue Cider's Percheron.

A pair of Rivieras Leisure Shoes

A backup chainsaw because for some reason this is the year all of the trees decided to fall.

So goddamn warm and they breathe so you don't wake up covered in sweat but you're still warm. Like I can't stand being wrapped up in a down or poly filled comforter, even in the winter, but I could cocoon myself in this year-round. They come in other colors too. I wanted the one with different shades of brown stripes but I ended up selling it and this was the only one we had left at the store. There's a thow-blanket sized green one with blue stripe sitting around that I'm going to snag to keep in my car if it makes it to markdown time.

quote:

A Hudson's Bay point blanket is a type of wool blanket traded by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in British North America (now Canada) and the United States during the 18th century and 19th century. The company is named for the famous saltwater bay in Northeastern Canada, and the blankets were typically traded to First Nations and Native Americans in exchange for beaver pelts. The blankets continue to be sold by Canada's Hudson's Bay department stores and have come to hold iconic status in Canada.

Yeah but I don't have to worry about my blanket catching fire.

Nice things cost money when they're not made in China but by old British men at a wool mill that dates back to 1783. But anyways, you can find them at a discount or used for less, but even at full price they're definitely worth it for something you'll have the rest of your life.

Wool>Linen. If my car crashes into a frozen lake I want my wet blanket to retain its insulative properties.

You can find army surplus blankets for cheap too, but some of them are a poly/wool blend.

Wool isn't really greater than linen it is just different. For warmth? Yeah go with wool. I have both linen and wool on my bed and it works for me.

You ever seen a fleece polyester blanket catch fire? Hope you like your new plastic skin. Wool is naturally resistant to flame. A demonstration of this can be seen in this modern video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKuAl_HzCjs

I also make sure to stick to mostly wool and leather clothes and shoes while flying. Anything to give me that slight edge on survival over the polyester-clad plebs I'm pushing out of the way while fleeing the burning wreckage.

Also, polyester and acrylic will trap any sweat/moisture between you and the blanket so when you crawl out of bed you're going to get cold fast.

The "Full" sized one can be had for $340 if you look under other sellers: http://www.amazon.com/Hudson-Point-...son+bay+blanket

Otherwise it's a matter of finding stores that have them on sale. I know my store doesn't do markdowns on Hudson Bay as the margins aren't great and they don't go out of style, but some may.
