Can you please tell me the circumstances of this shot? I try to do this with my telephoto lens pretty often but I can never seem to get the windows to be parallel to the frame on both sides so I just junk the picture. Is it the fact that you're extremely far away, or is it that you're in a building instead of on the ground, or is it something else entirely like post-processing? Here's a (lovely) example of my problem: I'm about 100m away from the building.

I'm in Iceland right now. Been in Reykjavik for 2 days, it's been 40 degrees and cloudy both days. It's an amazing, yet surprisingly expensive place. Heading inland to the Lava Fields tomorrow. I'm about as far as you get from a pro photographer, I just follow this thread for everyone else's great work, but I will report back. Might even post something! From what I understand a lot of the roads will close for the winter In the next month / 6 week. I would imagine that it's probably ridiculously picaresque when it's 23 hours of sun a day or whatever in the summer.

lollybo posted:Pillars by kgao1989, on Flickr Couldn't you have just zoomed, adjusted your position, or cropped afterwards? Overall it seems like a very near miss -- the play between the stones and the buildings (and maybe the fence, not sure) really works and there's enough foliage throughout to justify framing the scene with it. I am guessing custom distortion correction

# ? Nov 20, 2014 08:16 |
BANME.sh posted:I am guessing custom distortion correction That, or a very long lens and large distance, or a combination. A parallel projection is equivalent to a perspective projection at infinite distance and infinitesimally small angle of view. Of course those are kinda hard to produce in reality, so just get a long lens and then do the remaining correction in post.

MMD3 posted:Who can tell me about traveling/photographing in Iceland? I was laid off recently with a decent severance package and am considering traveling out of the country for a week or two. Iceland has been high on my list of places to go see and take photos of for a while now but I'm not sure how good this time of year or how good my chances of seeing the aurora would be. A bit late, but here's my Iceland album. Incomplete because post processing is too much for my incompetent head. This was June/July and even then the weather could easily turn to poo poo/get foggy as hell without notice. If you're into the landscapes I probably would hold of. If you want to catch an aurora borealis though, now is the right season.

Dunno how I feel about this one overall but I think it would have been better if it wasn't shot at a relatively steep downward angle. I mean it's cool but I'd like some context.
