Those 10 seconds starting from "Concealed Sword" is just such a good sequence. Like, holy poo poo the presentation of that attack - its abruptness, the sound cues, just it is so gooooooooooood. Also I think someone earlier in the thread predicted the Archer flashback + Rin wakeup cut.

Archer is amazing. So, so, SO happy about this remake letting him show his stuff.

I feel like the past two episodes are a pretty good microcosm of this story in general, words words words Holy poo poo Crazy Magic Sword Brawl ok back to words words. As cool as the fight was I think my favorite part was the childish bickering between Shirou/Archer. I don't remember it being as funny as it was here. Still as great as the Archer fight was I think I have to give the most credit to Kojiro's Tsubame Gaeshi. That was a loving cool effect/sequence.

Man there were like four action sequences that went by so fast I had to go back and frame-by-frame to appreciate them fully. I wish ufotable could animate everything.

So, uh, pretty much all those fight scenes were great, so I guess I'll just take suggestions for gifs? I dunno where to start.

Saber trying to grab Assassin's sword, tsubame gaeshi, Archer cutting Caster, Archer shooting Caster, Shiroe/Archer's synchronized indignation at Caster.

Shirou is kinda fun in this adaption, not only for his bickering and clashing with Archer, but I really like how they emphasize that he's depending on Saber to make him a better fighter. It's good teamwork building if anything and considering how Kiritsugu treated Saber in the last war, you can tell Saber really appreciates being depended on.

Caster owns. When most of the players are children, amateurs, and weaklings (and combinations thereof), you have a pseudo-master, who might lack raw power and established infrastructure, but has an actual battleplan. I missed the rampant cheating of the last war.

So...after having watched episode 7 my curiosity for fate/zero finally piqued. Can I/should I start watching it now?

Nah. If you're already this far into UBW I'd say save Zero when the show is over.

Grouchio posted:So...after having watched episode 7 my curiosity for fate/zero finally piqued. Can I/should I start watching it now? I'm a bit frustrated by the admittedly-gorgeously animated fight scenes in this show. They're beautifully done, but they lack narrative weight. It seems like every engagement is just swish-swish-fast jumpcuts, and the tactical aspect of gauging each others strengths isn't as much of a focus. Look at FZ's first battle between Saber and Lancer. They each had magical bullshit and mystery on their side, and each individual attack furthered what the audience knew about them as characters, and what they knew about each other. Ditto Kayneth and Kiritsugu. In contrast, the fights in Stay Night seems much less concrete, and don't convey as much information about the relative scale and powers of the various cast.

Squidster posted:I would say yes, because Fate Zero is vastly the better show. Not that Staynight is bad or anything, but FZ is really really good. On the other hand, these fight scenes are way more memorable because I can only remember three actually good fights in F/Z. And honestly, I'd wait to say F/Z is better until all of UBW is done.

I still remember most of what happened in most of the fights in F/Z despite it being more than a year since I last watched it. While the fights in this show I don't remember anything about other than that they've happened, aside from some of the Berserker stuff. The fights are flashy and cool, but not particularly memorable so far.

The stakes haven't even been established yet. The UBW proper hasn't even begun yet. Unlike other routes and F/Z, UBW has a lot of fights with varying stakes and narrative weight. In my opinion, it never gets as good as F/Z or especially HF at their best, but it's consistently exciting. That's probably why ufotable chose to adapt it in the first place.

I think that's a pretty fair assessment. With F/Z I remember the characters and their motivations and what leads to poo poo going down as a result of their actions and not necessarily the action scenes itself. UBW, I'm here to see poo poo blow up and a better adaption than Studio Deen. Two different needs met I guess!

I didn't give a gently caress about character motivations in FZ because they all boiled down to "I'm only doing this thing for myself" with the exception of Kiritsugu and his hilariously blew up in his face. UBW is a cool story of character progression on multiple cool characters with cool fights and less Saber, thank god.

What the gently caress is wrong with these people. Why doesn't anyone just straight up murder an enemy anymore. I miss the Fate/Zero Kiritsugu Emiya with his 'gently caress your magic' attitude and a propensity to get poo poo done.
