I was vaguely surprised how flawlessly it's been working, apart from aforementioned spooge.

Edit: Don't pay any serious money for SotS2, it's been abandoned and has serious issues with a retarded AI. It briefly hit a playable state before they dropped the first DLC pack for free, and it broke a bunch of mechanics. The current status is that the single actual developer left at Kerberos will work on it in his 'spare time'. Save up and buy Distant Worlds, as it shits all over every other space 4x.

Edit the second: The first SotS game is pretty good, after four expansions. There are still bugs in the game, but they're not crippling and the fundamental design decisions actually make a kinda sense, unlike the sequel.

If you people can afford it at 50% OFF get Alien: Isolation. It really owns and not only as an Alien game.

First of all it's one of those titles that will be remembered for its insanely fantastic art direction, it's right there with Mirror's Edge, Remember Me etc. but on the more realistic side.

Second, it has fantastic sound design, probably the best in any game I've played - playing this game with headphones is a must.

Lastly the game mixes Amnesia with System Shock and has a lot of cool toys/weapons/upgrades that allow you to play it however you want. It also has a solid length - about 20 hours. Anyway let's see some screenshots.

It spent ages getting tons of patches to make it run less like poo poo, make the UI functional, make the AI work, make the game descriptions match the actual functions. And it's still dead and deader than ever.

Alien Isolation: Worth it at 50% off? It seems to have gotten good stream reviews at least.

It's excellent, I bought it a week ago at 50% off and recently finished it. It's basically System Shock 2's and Amnesia's superior love child. Highly recommended if you like that sort of game.

I never played a Splinter Cell game before but I was very impressed with Blacklist. It's a very solid stealth game that leaves plenty of room for different playstyles. Definitely worth its price if you like stealth games like the Metal Gear Solid and Deus Ex series.

Miasmata is also a favorite of mine, albeit for very different reasons. Unlike the above two games, it's very indie. In fact, it's been made by 2 brothers, one of whom made the entire graphics engine(!) by himself. I've never played a game quite like it before. It's mostly about exploration and survival with an Amnesia-esque monster hunting you from time to time. If it sounds interesting to you I definitely recommend playing it, it's very good.

There are plenty of games that I hate, but the above three games that people are discussing right now happen to all be very, very good.

The sound is stupidly good, I've been watching an LP over youtube and even with the quality loss it sounds amazing; I'll get it once it drops a few more bucks.

I've read/heard in a bunch of places that the recommended difficulty setting is hard, since on normal the AI is kind of stupid and the game loses a lot of its tension, so anyone getting the game should give it a try on hard at least.

On the Ps4 version, it's got numerous crashes, serious texture bugs ( peoples faces collapsing into themselves ), and in my game the inability to move forward because not choosing a romance/having the gender bug meant everyone approached me at once, forcing me into two romances which the game couldn't handle.

The Inquisition thread has reached an agreement that the PC version is the worst version of the game when it comes to nextgen thanks to bugs, so I wasn't exactly hopeful. Good to hear that might not be the case?

I remember before Origin when things were worse, where you had to go to two separate sites to get the DLC for Mass Effect 1 or having to put in codes and download each piece of Mass Effect 2 content separately. Then there was installing Dragon: Age: Origins: Ultimate: Edition from the disc, which is the #1 worst install I've had to go through, having to input codes and download each DLC separately, with both on-disc and downloadable DLC and a stubborn refusal to recognize one or the other, and a horrible web interface for the whole process. Yes, it required a special validation process for the on-disc DLC. It took me hours to install that drat thing and get to recognize all the content I had paid money for.

And all of that so they wouldn't have to pay their :10bux: to Steam.

It's a pretty fun side-scrolling RPG -- the visuals are beautiful and it has what I found to be a surprising amount of RPG mechanics under the hood (stats to upgrade, skill trees, items to equip, etc.) Note that the characters speak in rhyming couplets -- this bugs some people. I found it pretty easy to ignore, and it was just incredible to look at.

Child of Light is a sidescrolling RPG (after the first major boss you gain the ability to fly, so it's not really a platformer). Its turn-based battle system has the Grandia-style turn bar, but if you hit an opponent while they're in the 'preparing to attack' portion of the turn bar, you will interrupt their attack and send them backwards on the turn bar. You have a helper character that you control with right analog stick that can slow enemies on the bar or give you minor healing as long as it has energy.

Two things to keep in mind: Your enemy can have 3 opponents on their side, but you only get 2 on yours. Which means you'll be healing often. HOWEVER, you can swap a party member out on their turn, and the party member that swaps in can attack immediately. In other words, no penalty.

There are skill trees and you get one skill point per level. A lot of blocks on the grid simply give bonuses to Strength, HP, Magic, Defense, etc, but you will eventually also get stronger versions of attacks/debuffs, and all-enemy versions of attacks/debuffs. The same for healing and buffs.

Each character has their own niche. Aurora is primarily a melee attacker who can cast Light magic, the clown is a Healer, the dwarf is a Mage, another character is a Buff/Debuff specialist, etc. You'll be rotating party members in battle a lot.

The game has 11 chapters and each chapter will run you a little over an hour (although the later chapters have felt longer and maybe they are). There are towns but there are no shops or anything like that. They are just places you either pass on through or rescue.

Since you can fly, the designers hid a bunch of stat-permaboost items all throughout the game for you to find by poking around. Much like another UbiArts game, Rayman Legends, just poking around walls will sometimes reveal a hidden area, although there's no "OOOOOO!" sound effect this time. Since there are no shops, there are a lot of chests around the world instead, which have potions, as well as crystals that you can equip for perks, or craft into better/different crystals.

The PC version is what I'm playing, and it works fantastically. It looks amazing, too.

A lot of the 'dialog banter' bugs comes from people staying in too few regions and not visiting the others. I think (not sure) but I think the game spaces out banter through time played AND progress, so yeah. I DO think there's probably a bug somewhere, but a lot of people's issue could be solved if they don't try to 100% each location before moving on.
