Idk I glanced into the thread and just saw lots of youtube links and not a lot of actual discussion, I was hoping to have some sort of specific debate (e.g. Here's why x is a better candidate) but in retrospect your point is 100% valid. Is your list much more obscure, or are mine just so obvious to the point of not being much to discuss?

It's good so far but not entirely what I was expecting. I've never heard a lot of Royce though so this is going to be a first. So far my impression is that he's talented, but not overly interesting tbh.

try intermittently clicking on the youtube links in the thread until you hear something you like. explore artist. i don't think listening to huge sermons about why x is good should make a god drat difference to anyone's actual taste. you have 71 pages. go.

For the most part I know what I like, and I didn't come into the thread to sift through months old posts. Sorry if that's out of line. Nothing in the last few pages I haven't heard except some ok mashups, so I don't really wanna go through pages of stuff I've listened to. I guess I'll just lurk awhile. Edit: I am listening to monster again now though so that can't be a bad ting

Some of his older tapes weren't bad but I feel like ever since Slaughterhouse formed they've all just tried to out rap eachother and most of their songs just feel flat. Maybe I'm completely off base but I still think the best song Royce ever wrote was The Message. I saw them live though and it was awesome. Except Crooked I couldn't get across the border.

Yeah. Tbh I think it's cause I tend to enjoy larger-than-life characters in my rappers, and Royce doesn't really do that for me. drat if he can't ride a beat though. I woulda been bummed about that show, he's the best member imo. The only similar experience I've ever had was buying a ticket to a show to see Kendrick, who then cancelled for the All-Star NBA game. They announced Odd Future to replace him...who weren't let in the country because they "incite riots".

Every rapper I've heard of/like would be a stupidly big list, so I'll go with some stuff I've been enjoying recently: My most played artists recently have been Redman, E-40, Lucki Ecks, MF DOOM and Ludacris. Unrelated: Is there a definitive Mac Dre starting point? & are there any rappers similar to Pharaohe Monch?

For those of you who like AOTP and related stuff, V-Zilla and Lawrence Arnell just released an album on Thursday called "The Monster & Mr. Arnell" It is pretty darn good overall (with a weak track or two) and most of the beats are boom-bap style.

Ross has always been about his production for me. His first album was fire, then it was all poo poo until Mastermind which has more than a few good tracks. Shame to hear the new one is poo poo.

The new Montana of 300 project is out. I was hoping for more stuff where he just does a single verse through the whole song (like Wayne used to do) but most of the stuff just has the regular hook/verse structure. His hooks are alright, but generic. Listen to the new SD album instead if that's what you want - it's a great album.
