Zooey can get annoying at times, but the show really is about the other guy roommates. I didn't hate the third season but I get where you're coming from. And yeah, anyone who suffered through Welcome to Sweden will appreciate the first two seasons of lilyhammer. Also echoing the love for dredd

But even the full version is only a fairly small part of the ROTK books, so if you're not familiar with them you're going to be missing a fair amount of context either way.

Anne Whateley posted:I laugh my rear end off at Bringing Up Baby. Last I saw it was on Prime streaming. This was from a few pages ago, it isn't on Prime unfortunately, but it is only like 4 dollars to rent from amazon. And it is hilarious. Carey Grant is just so good at playing his roles and delivering lines. He goes from exasperated to deadpan easily. His quick progression from nervous introvert to angry and fed up went perfectly, and everyone elses reaction to it was great. Hepburn was the perfect foil. If it wasn't for the wardrobe and technology this movie could have easily of taken place today. Edit: I would marry either Cary Grant or Katherine humpburn. They are both dreamy. Black Mirror is up on US Netflix.Charlie Brooker posted:If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side-effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The "black mirror" of the title is the one you'll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone. Six extremely dark stand-alone sci-fi-ish allegories that all sort of revolve around some aspect of social media, technology, and the internet. Season 1: Fifteen Million Merits and Season 2: White Bear stand out as series bests, but all six are good. The man behind the series is Charlie Brooker, an excellent satirist whose previous work includes Dead Set, involvement with Chris Morris' Brass Eye and Nathan Barley, and Screenwipe, Gameswipe, and Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe. Hopefully this bodes well for cable cutters in the US hoping to watch the upcoming Christmas special starring Jon Hamm and Oona Chaplin. I fuckin' love this show. Glad I can now impel friends and family to watch it by legal means.

10 Rules for Messing Around is pretty good if you want a comedy of errors. Good cast, some decent gags, and a ton of brief man nudity. If you're looking for a movie to watch with your girl this one should be fun for both of you.

The Pill is the most bizarre "romantic comedy" about a man in a committed relationship who spends 24 hours pretending to love his rapist in order to convince her to take the morning after pill. I don't know if I am recommending it or not.

They both follow pretty closely to the books aside from a few plot points left out here and there. You wouldn't be completely lost going in depending on your tolerance for foreign language films and completely different actors. I felt that it was a complete shift in focus in the books anyway, the Vanger investigation is barely touched upon again and Salander and her past are in the spotlight from here on. I felt The Daniel Craig version rushed through her whole hacking/espionage bit at the end, leading to some possible confusion as to why Salander is suddenly filthy rich

How bout that Rory Kinnear. He is absolutely perfect in it, hands down the best performance in the whole series. The little coda at the end is perfect too, and much less on the nose than the others. Can't wait for that Christmas Special.

I enjoy 15 million merits for the contrast of the saccharine bullshit of the first acts and the bleakness of the last half; that the protagonist is basically as image-obsessed as everyone else, only to a different degree. He ignores the girl interested in him for the prettier one, and he is willing to become a slightly different cog in the machine of humanity in exchange for a nicer simulation of reality. And the open-endedness of the ending; that I'm totally wrong, and he's just moving up the chain, planning his next move. Also, I like wondering what cataclysmic event has lead humanity to live in isolation in a giant building.
