Jim is some kind of rear end in a top hat impresario: there is always more and it is always worse.

I'll never pass up a chance to poo poo on Jim but he was pretty much right in the last episode, the never ending online half 'news' half clickbait startups are all complete poo poo from Buzzfeed having its staff host hundreds of articles about "this is me reading harry potter chapter by chapter" to publishing thinly veiled relationship/rant pieces.

The scene on the balcony was okay I guess, but my god he just couldn't leave it the hell alone while he was making a sandwich. Is it a credit to Sorkin's writing that I felt about as incredibly irritated as Haley did?

What high horse does Jim have though? What important journalism have they done? They stopped their tragedy porn coverage of Boston a few days earlier than some other channels and having a leak dropped in their laps? I guess they had that EPA piece that was twenty years too late to matter. Even from the brief description, I bet her 'Plan B' piece might be more interesting than being one of a dozen channels covering the same poo poo in slightly different ways.

A pregnancy scare isn't news. When they met, she was a serious journalist on a campaign bus. She had a great opportunity working for ACN and she hosed it up by being irresponsible. She then threw her journalistic integrity even further out the window. She turned into a tabloid reporter to make a quick buck.

Or I totally misunderstood the situation.

This. I hate Jim because he's so loving wishy-washy on everything.

Either stand up for your principles and break up with her or swallow your pride and accept it. Don't drag it out making her feel awful as a person and a professional.

And this is essentially Jim's character since the show began. gently caress Jim.

Regurgitating press releases isn't serious journalism. Jim had a whole bit about that. Writing about a personal experience with Plan B clearly isn't journalism either, but it's more interesting and potentially helpful.

I sort of saw where he was coming until he dropped that "So does your article start with 'Dear Penthouse'" right after she told him she was writing something about her personal experience with Plan B, which will probably have some emotional baggage attached to it. That smarmy look on his face after she stormed out made me just think he was the biggest rear end in a top hat in the universe and pretty much deserved the article she wrote about him. I was more surprised that she didn't break up with him right there, because your live-in partner saying something like that is a big indicator that things just aren't working out.

That's the point though, in real life people don't break up with someone they care about over poo poo like that straight away, they needle and fight and argue and then hate each other for it. And Jim is a bit of a prick.

Yeah thinking Jim was right in this specific circumstance doesn't mean anyone is saying he isn't an extremely lovely person, it just happens that so is she.

What I took from his argument was he finally realized she wasn't a "serious" journalist, she sold herself out by letting the Romney bus do whatever they wanted (until he had to 'save' her), she refused to even admit the hilariously obvious journalistic ethical problem that was being paid with page views, she flippantly posted hateful poo poo from the ACN account, then she lasted all of 5 days before writing a tell all opinion piece.

The only suitable outcome was for both of them to fall off the roof. Although as a testament to how annoying they were they would've probably continued their annoying as poo poo argument the whole way down and take all the fun out of seeing them die.

I'm all for the ethical position that one should write important news even if it's less commercially successful, but it's ridiculously entitled to believe you should be as well compensated for it as for producing something that's more popular. It's entirely common that acting ethically come with some self-sacrifice; everyone would do it if it didn't.

So much of this show just feels so unearned.

The scene in the kitchen? The sandwich scene? That all felt unearned. I didn't buy it, or at least I didn't care about it.

Will & Mac getting married? Didn't care.

I don't even really know how to articulate this, but it feels like this show is delivering a lot of "pay off" moments that actually don't pay off because the build up is weak, non-existent, trite or stupid.

I think it's 'cause sorkin had like 50 eps planned for the season to insert lines like "do you have a go bag?" but then HBO said no you are dogshit sorin here's 6 eps make it work". So he just had to squeeze everything together but him not knowing what is good tv and what is bad leaves us with a slew of jim scenes.
