Competent Skye is on of the many improvements of season two. Actually seeing people being good at their job is a hell of a lot more interesting than the plucky newcomer. Same for the science nerds, both Fitz and Simmons became much more intertwining characters when they were actually allowed to show of their proficiency, like in the academy episode.

Also, there will probably be a Ward -Skye fight down the line.

Yeah, they are definitely foreshadowing something with her. All this talk about Coulson's new philosophy about sacrificing no one makes me suspicious.
