I don't see the benefit of digital downloads. I suppose I don't switch between games all that often.

"An external hard drive hanging off of it?" ...what? I would imagine you would keep your hard drive, sell the console, and let whoever buys it from you buy their own drat hard drive to redownload the poo poo if they want it.

Through the various black friday sales I've probably already saved more on buying games than I ever would through that promotion. I think the only game I've paid full price for is Hyrule Warriors.

Thanks. Just wanted to post that Walmart will price match Kmart.com; I picked up Donkey Kong tonight. Their policy says it has to be in stock (on Kmart.com) though. None of that is in stock online for me, but the mobile version of their website says it's in stock and can be added to a shopping cart. So if your moral compass isn't exactly true...

FairGame posted:

No, but that's still not something I want in my online experience--and clearly neither does Nintendo or they wouldn't have a filter that forced him to use a 3 instead of an e.

There might not be a name filter in Mario Kart 8, unless that "I" is actually a lowercase "L". Also, I feel I should note that "HITLER" and "Fat Jew" were randomly matched and not from the same state.

If your moral compass was 100% true you wouldn't be shopping at Walmart to begin with.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that's a lower case L in the photo, since it looks identical to the other lowercase L's.

Mario is driven by selflessness and heroism, Luigi is less so on both accounts, Wario is driven by greed and villany and so is Waluigi but less so just like Luigi, but while Luigi still finds the little selflessness and heroism in himself to go on adventure, Waluigi's toned down greed and villany mean he has nowhere near the needed desire to go on adventures, and thus while Wario will go on an adventure for cash, Waluigi will contently play dirty at sporting events, thus never getting close to the spotlight.

Therefor, Waluigi will always shop at Walmart and abuse loopholes.

So long-term owners, is it worth it to go for Platinum on Club Nintendo or stick with Gold for 2 years?

I just got a WiiU and a ton of games, I think I could reach Platinum this year but next year I don't think I'll be buying enough games next year to get Gold. Should I redeem my points just to reach 300 and then save the rest for next year?

I'd place some small amount of money on Club Nintendo being discontinued in the near future, with Amiibo and the New 3DS lacking codes, so go for platinum.

Oh really? Seems like a weird thing to kill since it gets people to keep buying unused stuff. Surely doesn't hurt their bottom line to hand out a few cheap-o VC games or something that cost very little to port over. Alright, thanks, I'll jizz them all off.

Yeah, Club Nintendo in Japan has already done away with ranks completely. This past year was the last one. You can still get and spend coins, but there's no more gold or platinum to shoot for.

Anyway it seems like VC games are now coin rewards. Saving up 600 points and waiting an entire year to redeem a single dumb game makes no sense when you can just spend ~100 for one whenever you want.

At the end of a period year (being in July I believe,) your rank entitles you to pick a gift out of a pre-selected bunch. Gold typically gets virtual console games to choose from, while platinum can choose anything from gold, or something from a higher-tiered list. It used to be exclusive stuff like one-off soundtracks and posters, but last year, it was just a few retail (digital) games to choose from.

I don't think anyone expects the exclusive, physical stuff to come back, but Nintendo definitely knows a lot of people were disappointed, so who knows.

In the US, it was pretty good this year. I got Donkey Kong Returns for 3DS, which was a lot of game to give away for poo poo I already bought.

This was North America's Gold rewards (you could still choose them if you had platinum):

• Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, 3DS
• Metroid, 3DS
• Wario Land 2, 3DS
• Donkey Kong 3, 3DS
• Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Wii U
• Super Mario Bros., Wii U
• Kid Icarus, Wii U
• Ice Climber, Wii U

This was the list of rewards that only platinum could get:

• Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, 3DS
• Dillon's Rolling Western, 3DS
• Fluidity: Spin Cycle, 3DS
• Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, 3DS
• Dr. Luigi, Wii U
• EarthBound, Wii U
• NES Remix, Wii U
• Game & Wario, Wii U

Nintendo actually recommends a AC powered USB hub if you want to use 2 GameCube Adapters. Also, you really only need one of the USB ports on the GameCube Adapter, the other one is just to power the rumble on the controllers. If you don't care about the rumble just unplug one of the USB cables to make room for another adapter.

Supercar Gautier
Jun 10, 2006

It really depends on the device's power draw. Some devices will work fine through an unpowered hub (like an AC-powered external drive, or an ethernet adapter), but anything that's connecting through 2 USB ports should either connect directly or go through a powered hub.
