it's interesting how far Marth and Lucina have fallen.

I'm actually glad Marth and Lucina are ranking so low because if the Japanese think they're crap then they'll probably get buffed (it's what happened with Ike as far as I know).

When your throws deal 3 loving percent you're pretty much doomed.

The discussion I've seen on this is hilarious, as people keep saying "that seems wrong" about poo poo, when it's not a judgement at all, just a ranking of actual performance. It's obviously going to be pretty wonky with the relatively small sample size, but random forum-goers with gut tier lists getting all huffy, criticizing this actually objective (if not especially meaningful) one, is amusing.

Still, it's interesting how far Marth and Lucina have fallen.

The last version of this list might have been the basis for the nerfs/buffs in the last patch, so this might actually be relevant at some point.

I don't feel like Robin should be that low, but if that means he/she' might get a buff I'm all for it.

Robin's slow as hell with a bad grab range, and those two factors are usually pretty bad for a character's outlook.

Why is Shulk so low? I've got an 80% winrate with him over ~40 1v1 for glory matches. He's gotta be A or B tier, at least. Unless Japanese players just don't like him because :reasons:

From what I understand, Japanese tournaments almost entirely take place on Final Destination and Omega stages and MAYBE Battlefield, so that that into account when looking at the """""tier""""" list.

If you're just playing with friends who gives a poo poo where your character is on the list.

That said it's probably still fairly accurate for the meta over here, too. Especially WRT Doc Mario, who might have the actual worst recovery in the entire game.

Smashville and Town & City are the Best Stages w/r/t platform layout, and if you disagree then you're just wrong.

Other not-poo poo stages for competitive play include Delfino Plaza and Lylat Cruise.

You can use Amiibos in 8-player smash, yes. I'm not sure about online, since I haven't got any yet.

Smashville is probably my most picked stage. However I am also an idiot and I really like Duck Hunt and Norfair.

NSMBU is a good stage.

Does it matter where your character places if you're good with them? Wouldn't both you and your opponent have to play at the exact same level for it to matter at all?

Correct. Tier lists don't matter unless it's an older game with a LOT of well documented play time from a variety of high level players (think Melee or MvC2 levels of play).

Also additional reminder that the graphic posted before is a tournament result list, not a tier list. All it really does is highlight which characters are easiest to abuse/difficult to counter. Someone who's low on that list could have some powerful exploit that just hasn't been discovered yet.

So here's a strange bug that'll never really effect anyone. If you're fighting as Palutena in the Garden of Hope stage jump onto the breakable pot and when someone jumps up to get you forward/back throw them. This for whatever reason shrinks your enemy as if they got hit with a poison mushroom and you can blow them up.

That Garden of Hope thing seems to be a more general glitch, as it can occur to Pac Man's hydrant as well.

Not same exact level but around the same level. Skill trumps character faults, but some character faults are more glaring than others and can prove more difficult to play around.

Well no, not really. It also denotes how much work you have to put into a character in order to get any achievable value out of them, and how much value said work gives you.

For example a Olimar player will have to work much harder than anyone else to win matches against decent opponents, even if he's more skilled. This also puts a cap on the ceiling you can reach because a really good Olimar player will still have a difficult time against a really good Diddy player. And it's something even lower-skilled players can get a good feel for.

Theory I had on it is things in the pot shrink so they don't clip (I'm pretty sure that's what happens) but Palutena's throw for some reason registers them as "inside" and shrinks them down.

Also saw this floating around

No, but it is a list of extremely short-term performance of people who self-selected certain characters. It's probably only vaguely accurate at generalizing outside of its own environment.

I don't like fox, but I don't think he's bad in this game. He wasn't good in Brawl, and from what I understand he was actually buffed in this game, especially in the fact that his side B no longer puts you in free-fall.

Here is my tier list made completely out of what I have seen people do on tournaments that i see streamed on twitch sometimes:

Top: Diddy Kong, Ness, Sheik, Rosalina
High: Luigi, Robin, Peach, Sonic, Duck Hunt
Middle: Mario, DK, MegaMan, Villager, DeDeDe, Dark Pit, Fox

I don't see any other characters on these streams, so there are none.
