Besides this awful trash, been looking into DwarfNET again. Some fixes here and there. Little improvements. Lots of new threads with dwarfs debating fanfiction, talking about VHS, vidcon company scandals exposed and the like. They are (almost) good too because Hundley wrote most of them. It'll probably fail because there's nothing really compelling about the pitch, and we're definitely not starved for 2D platformers these days (and the target demographic for that kind of straightforward Mario clone is not the demographic that backs kickstarters). Also I hate how zoomed-in it is.

Gameplay wise it looks closer to SMB3. The animation reminds me a lot of Wario Land 4 though.

Working on a super elaborate series of quests that all connect together to form one big storyline. I think people are gonna find it to be really funny (or very tragic?), but only if they see it through to the end. It builds up, piece by piece, into a really stupid finale. Gonna try and have it prototyped by Xmas. The other idiots talked about another super boring KS update but there is no ETA on that. It'll probably be so boring that you'll cancel your pledge/preorder. Don't know what else to say that isn't completely uninteresting. Everyone is just churning away at quests and such. Recently there has been a surge of bosses getting added to the game or being prototyped. Some DwarfNET visuals planning. The actual forum thing works beautifully but the looks aren't locked in. That's about it for now.

Will dungeons in the game have a way to let you know which way is the critical path and which is a side area? Because I always hate accidentally making progress and not being able to go back and explore the areas I didn't. It happened when I first played Barkley 1 and went up int he B-Ball Catacombs in Barkley 1 and I had to load from the beginning after killing the B-Ball Monster and entering the sewers.

I hate when this happens. I had bad memories of Final Fantasy 10 where I'd be trying to explore a dungeon, go into the wrong door and end up stuck in a cutscene. I just wanted to find all the treasure.

The game is very non-linear, and right now there really isn't anything that seperates the optional areas from the rest, besides the objectives you are given to complete the main storyline, which are often times pretty vague and require you to find hints and explore Necron7. There is only one area I know of that sort of locks up after you depart from it, but we could put in some dialog that tells the player that he can't go back afterwards so you better make sure you are ready to leave. In fact I think thats already in there. With that said though, there isn't really a way to 100% the game in a single playthrough, because there are a lot of quests that can end in a lot of ways and then the consequences of the choices you made will open up and/or close down other stuff related to it. It's sort of like if the Duergar vs. Genie event in B1 went on into additional quests and events after the deal is done, but they would be either Duergar quests or Genie quests, not both.
