I think there are spots in every level where if you let Toad idle he'll do some little thing. I mean there's two that I found int he first level, there's one in the second where he'll look out of a hole in the wall and shout across the stage. And there's a bunch of little background details if you look around.

Currently I could probably not buy a single new game and between my Xbox 360, Wii Classic, 3DS, Steam, and now Wii U games, I'll probably have enough to last me until the next console generation. Gaming's ambrosia, indeed.

I bought Captain Toad with my DDP bucks. Can't wait to play it. The best part about living in this state is that when I buy games through the eshop, not only am I paying the "Nintendo premium," I'm also paying tax for the privilege of living in one of the most crime-ridden, economically depressed and poorly managed cities in the South! Still only came out to $15 and change for a $40 game, so can't really complain all that much. Doesn't mean I WON'T, of course. Cialis Railman fucked around with this message at 02:13 on Dec 6, 2014 |

I had actually figured out exactly where it probably was earlier but when I went to check I didn't notice it because I didn't realize pluckable plants could be invisible like coins. There is an indication, you just need to shine your light on it to make the see through plant appear.

Yeah Miiverse is great. You can find some really funny/quality stuff on there. And when it's used in the game in some way it's especially fun. 3D World has messages about the stage each time you beat it, and there are randomly place miiverse messages everywhere. EDIT: yes game grumps played 3d world which caused the 3d world miiverse to be flooded with game grumps comments for a while bluh blooh blooh they aren't playing it anymore so don't worry about that

Captain Toad review: Nintendo, please make this an established series. Also do away with the gamepad spinning the camera when on foot (it's great in mine carts). Captain Toad is continuing the trend of every Wii U game I play being my "favorite Wii U game."

I keep hearing mixed things about New Super Mario U here (nothing bad, but not much enthusiasm). Is it just because it's an older game on the system that doesn't bring much new to table compared to the old Wii one, or is it lacking in some respect to the Wii one? Because being a dick to my friends in "co-op" mode on the last one is some of the most fun I had on the Wii.

People are just tired of the formula, yeah. The game's fine and the co-op fuckery is even worse thanks to the gamepad stuff, but keep in mind that you can't actually use the gamepad as a controller for some stupid reason, so if you wanna play with 4 people you need 4 wiimotes. Mario 3D World has co-op, too, and it works pretty similarly but in 3D.

I don't have 3D World yet, but I got Mario U cheap and, so far, it's the best of all "New" Mario games that I tried. Stages are usually clever, enemies dancing to the music is a cute little touch, and I'm having fun with it. I imagine co-op would be even greater.

Can you be as big a dick in 3D World? I'll probably get both, especially since I probably liked the 3D Land a little more than pure single player NEW SM WII, but I'll mostly be buying for multiplayer, so I need to prioritize.

Plus there's plenty of levels where you can be just a dick to the other player with things the level has. Like the one where you can get a Piranha Plant that will chomp at anything near it, including your teammate. Or the level where the platforms move whenever you jump. Whenever EITHER of you jump. Plus yeah, you're teaming up to beat the game, but that's where the cooperation ends. You are in competition with your teammate to get to the green stars first and get the highest score and well it's all typical Nintendo friendship building

Okay, that sounds like NSMB Wii levels of dickery. I swear they make these games with "How can we get 10 year olds to get in a fist fight as quick as possible" as their main design goal.

By the way, for the challenge in Shy Guy Heights, no only can you throw the turnips at the shy guys from behind, but you can also tap them on your tablet and they will freeze in place. It made slipping past them a bit faster than chasing after them with turnips

Nintendo just showed off a trailer for Mario Maker at this Game Awards 2014 thing that's going on. Looks like it now has SMB3 and SMW graphics added and there's a ton of customization. Miyamoto also mentioned that if it's popular it may become a series of its own. I don't think a trailer has gone up yet from Nintendo's Youtube.

Cheers for Captain Toad Yeah, it looks like they've added a bunch of customization options since E3, so there's gonna be tons more I imagine on launch. Also did it look like the stages were quite a bit longer then what they showed at E3?

The New Super Mario Bros series is Nintendo's most overmined IP at the moment (not "Mario series" since that actually covers about twenty different game series, "New Super Mario Bros"). They essentially had five releases in five years so people are a bit burned out on it. I think the Wii U one is probably the best entry in the series in terms of level and power up design, but if you've just played New Super Mario Bros. 2 or New Super Mario Bros. Wii it's going to be pretty samey. New Luigi Bros U changes things up a bit, at least, though I wouldn't recommend playing that until you've played the previous one.

So far my favorite part of Captain Toad is how comically slow the first 3D World level feels. It just felt like someone asked the question "how much would it suck if Captain Toad had been an unlock in 3D World?" and Nintendo decided to answer. Yet in spite of how I made that sound, I still thought it was fun.

In case you didn't notice, those levels are all levels that originally featured Captain Toad as an NPC and the end goal tends to be at the same spot you'd find him at in 3D World, which is a neat little touch, but it does mean you don't even see a lot of the original stage sometimes, yeah.
