If you like Twilight Sad and Catherine Wheel you should consider checking out KEXP.org. They're a indie station here in Seattle that play a ton of great music across a lot of genres (though generally independent) and the best part is that they stream it online for free and also have free music podcasts. You should check out the morning show as it would not be uncommon at all to here both of those bands within the same music block. I'm pretty sure we're in the same billing zone for Comcast and their Internet that is one step up from the cheapest/worst is $49.95/mo if you own your own cable modem (which can be purchased online for not much and are worth buying since Comcast charges $5-7/mo to rent/lease one). It's still more than it should cost in my opinion, but until the fiber options that the city is trying to encourage actually happen and drive prices down it's about the best we've got. There is still CenturyLink too, but yeah, they're contract and I've heard a lot of anecdotal stories about most of their service being garbage. Fo3 posted:Trying to not think about things. I'm thinking about finally upgrading to an LCD LED TV, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with the options out there (of which 1/3 are Saumsung and 1/3 are brands that sound lovely or I know are lovely). Since most of us are tech nerds too, do any of you have decent review or information sites you'd recommend that collate and compare information well? I can watch a youtube review and read an Amazon review, but I don't feel like that's helping much. The tough spot I'm in too is that I kind of don't like the way the picture on most 120hz TVs looks because many, to me, appear ultra sharp and ultra real in a bad way. I don't want to see the pores on peoples skin. Or maybe I'm just sitting too close to the TV

I had one with lovely caps - and they sent someone out to fix it about a year after the warranty expired. Still works perfectly, even if it is only 1080p. The speakers are complete poo poo, but I don't watch stuff that needs loud explosions, so I could give slightly less of a gently caress than if it just had audio out. If you're complaining about frame rate stuff, it'd be because movies are filmed at 24 frames per second and day time soap opera are filmed at 60Hz. I don't know how this relates to seeing people's pores on their skin, but have you considered watching stuff that wasn't filmed with a macro lens? Just go buy the biggest Samsung you can afford.

At the stores, you have to remember they're cranking out the most clear picture they can because they want you to buy poo poo. and a lot of the soap opera affect is them using their "smoothing" technology which you can turn off to varying degrees.

I used to work for a big electrical retailer just as 120/300/600Hz TV's were coming to market. That poo poo messes with my head, my brain starts trying to rectify the image like some sort of magic eye picture and it just gives me a headache. And you say we were cranking out the clearest image possible, all the TVs out on the floor were running off a single blu-ray player split between literally dozens of component splitters under-floor. There was one TV hooked up with a HDMI cable that we used to try and up-sell people on cables.

HDMI is the new USB. They all plug into the same looking ports, but not all things work- thanks to different revisions. My 2008 is godawful in that it takes at least 3 seconds of signal to get its poo poo together. By that time, many consumer devices say "gently caress this", and stop talking. I actually returned a Blu-Ray player because no matter how I gave it 'FALL BACK TO 640i BITCH' commands, it tried to sniff the TV, failed, and shut off. I have a combination of HDMI 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4. If I try to swap cables to do a test, I need to make sure they are compatible. Yeah. gently caress This, indeed.

I can't remember if I've asked this before... one of the inside fender wells on the Midget is sort of bent down at the front side, so if I hit a massive bump it will rub on the tire. I've tried twisting it back with some channel locks and I've tried using a 2x4 & hammer to whack it back up, but it's kind of springy and won't take the new shape very easily. Any recommendations?

Ugh. I got a message from Wells Fargo today stating they say some suspicious debit card activity going on. I called them back and verified four charges I had made, but the fifth one was someone trying to buy $120 worth of groceries in some store in Carlsbad, CA. Luckily they declined it, but this means they have to cancel my card, I had to stop by a branch on my lunch hour to get a temporary one, and now I have to update all the bills I pay online that I used that card for. I mean, I'm glad they declined that charge and were so quick to identify an issue, but it's still quite an inconvenience. gently caress you, person in CA trying to defraud me.
