Keep in mind this game still has tons of dev time left. I mean, even in Wind Waker, there was an island in every square on the map, with enemies and treasure and pirate ships all throughout. They have tons of time to fill the world witht cool things once it's totally done.

You say that, but the sailing only became bearable with the addition of the swift sail in the HD version. In the original version it was something that really dragged down an (otherwise amazing) game. I usually pointed the boat in the direction of my destination and picked up a book or something.

I'd like to think that they learned something from that and won't do the same mistake again. The swift sail existing gives me hope.

The best part about living in this state is that when I buy games through the eshop, not only am I paying the "Nintendo premium," I'm also paying tax for the privilege of living in one of the most crime-ridden, economically depressed and poorly managed cities in the South! :waycool:

Still only came out to $15 and change for a $40 game, so can't really complain all that much. Doesn't mean I WON'T, of course.

Does the same thing work for the Wii U that works for the 3DS, where it determines tax based on the location zip code you provide rather than the billing zip code on your credit card? If so, IIRC you can set your zip code to somewhere in California and you won't get charged tax at all.

I keep hearing mixed things about New Super Mario U here (nothing bad, but not much enthusiasm). Is it just because it's an older game on the system that doesn't bring much new to table compared to the old Wii one, or is it lacking in some respect to the Wii one? Because being a dick to my friends in "co-op" mode on the last one is some of the most fun I had on the Wii.

I don't think people really care much for the "New Super Mario" series in general. Like I don't hate the games, but it feels like there's something missing in them from the other 2D-oriented games in the series.

They especially pale in comparison to 3D Land/World, which finally nailed a transition from 2D Mario games to a 3D space.

New Super Mario Bros Wii sold like 30 million copies, and the series overall has sold somewhere in the vicinity of 75 million.

So yes, they do. Just not here on Something Awful dot com

New Super Mario Bros Wii is still the best co-op experience me and my friends have ever had. The antagonistic nature of it just really clicked with our group.

It's kind of a shame that so many people are too burnt out on the NSMB games to give U a chance, it's the best one by far (Plus the challenge mode and the Luigi DLC are amazing)

The hate the series gets is always weird to me. I mean don't get me wrong, it's not hated, or really even seen as below average, but still it has a reputation around some places. It's more Mario with better graphics and I dunno, that's pretty rad. I'll always been in the mood for another fairly standard Mario game. I suppose if you're expecting it to suddenly shift into something completely new and refreshing then it will disappoint but that's not what it is.

The way Nintendo is perfecting the good ol fashion nostalgia + :pcgaming: NEW THINGS :pcgaming: balance is very appealing to me.

The issue is that they released too many sequels too fast and that's why people didn't like the New Super Mario series. People felt it was quickly made for quick cash ins and it didn't try to do anything different and wasn't up to the usual effort Nintendo puts in their products

The game seems stale to me to some regard solely because I played 3D World before it. I'm definitely a huge Mario fan, but it does nothing for me. Personally, if I got a New Mario in 16-bit, :getin:

The physics and level design are impeccable as always in NSMBU but the aesthetics and music feel like they've barely changed since the Wii version. When you contrast it to games like Rayman Legends or 3D World where every level has something interesting and new it kind of pales in comparison.

I like quite a bit of the additions in New Super Mario Bros (walljumping! Star Coins! Occasionally cool power-ups!), but there is a certain level of laziness to the general level designs.

I have no idea why every single entry has to have the exact same types of levels laid out in the exact same order.

If you want to see what a more imaginative NSMB game would look like, there's a fantastic fan-made entry that is really impressive. It doesn't even require the homebrew channel or anything crazy, and does require the original disk. The set-up process is a painless process, even for someone tech addled like me.

The game got coverage in destructoid, kotaku, giantbomb... most of the major sites. It is also thankfully NOT bastard hard, like most modifications. The difficulty level is about on par with the other entries in the NSMB franchise.

Took my wii u on a business trip and on the way back it got destroyed in my luggage :(. The glass on the gamepad is OK but the screen is destroyed, the HDMI out on the console doesn't work, and I can tell from the audio on the game pad that when I turn it on it has me on the first configuration screen (moving the direction pad sounds like it has me on a screen with a keyboard.)

That said, I called into nintendo support and not only did they answer on a saturday morning but they're going to fix both components for just the price of the console (100 with shipping.) Sucks that I'm probably going to have to wait for 2 weeks to play Treasure Tracker and I'm going to continue sucking rear end at smash bros but drat, that is great support.

I thought they were spaced out alright for the most part. The first was released in 2006, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii in 2009. Them releasing Wii U and 2 on the same year a few months apart in 2012 seemed to color everybody's perception of the series as though they were releasing one every year like an AssCreed/Call of Duty game for some reason.

That seems really fast to make and discontinue something. I will say when I was at stores yesterday I didn't see any of those amiibos. Several stores also sold out of Link and Samus.

This amiibo stuff seems pretty on par with what Iwata has said before.

quote:

The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.

I guess it seems surprising they're being discontinued only after two weeks, but that said, they second wave is days away, so they probably want that space from what I assume are the three least popular amiibos.
