Oh yeah, he will not stand aside, he will fight them tooth and nail for the leadership position and he'll make any offer or deal he can to keep it. For Tones, being PM was never about the country or even the Liberal party, it was all about him getting the glory and title at any cost. Remember that these are the guys who didn't have the ticker to remove Howard when he was an electoral liability ahead of an actual election. And the guys who want their jobs are even dumber. Cartoon posted:The 'funny' thing about this is that if they hadn't jumped off the 'do nothing*' play book (The standard Tory play book) and just kept the ship 'steady as she goes' they would probably have sailed into a second term promising to deliver all of these unpopular things. It says something about Howard's iron grip that these guys were that frustrated they couldn't do what they wanted that an ALP government was the last straw, and the dam burst and other cliches. So for me this is as much his fault, and his continuing "advice" isn't helping. I've said I wouldn't be surprised that if they do dump Abbott they'll put in Scott Morrison and here's my reasons (let's just assume they laugh Abbott off any ballot because seriously mate you hosed up): * He'd win a ballot against all comers. Bishop doesn't stand a chance, they'd pick him to avoid her. * He's the only "success" they have. * He's got I WANNA BE PM written all over him. That's a core requirement for getting the job. Noone takes Joe seriously enough. They're too scared to put a woman in the job. And Turnbull? See below. * No, he won't take Treasurer as an alternative. No one with any brain cells wants that job right now. (I'm secretly hoping they give it to Cormann anyway because that's a train crash that needs to happen). Counterpoint: they put in Also, deal with it

There must be some kind of unwritten rule that any person actively campaigning against daylight savings must also be a sanctimonious luddite bigot. Or they're just old. Self accelerationalists, or indeed Muppet Government. I remember reading the IPA's list of 75 recommendations for the Abbott government just before the election and being flabbergasted. In reality the commission of audit was a watered down conservative cherry-picking of the IPA's libertarian shopping list and now the budget has been turned into a watered-down version of the commission of audit, which is really quite terrifying considering how loving awful and reactionary it still is. Though one thing I'd really like for Tony Abbott to follow through with on that list more than anything else is to be like Gough, literally.

What is wrong with this new law? Has it not been passed within the auspices of Australian democracy? Nothing untoward has occurred! All that has happened is merely a reflection of the will of the Australian people! Be proud of what the Australian people have chosen! With compulsory voting and preferential voting one can be certain that the people's will is most accurately reflected!

I heard of someone doing a similar campaign for 50 Shades of Grey, with the arguements that it's a sexually explicit book and can easily be purchased by children. Not having read it, I have no idea how bad it is, I just keep hearing people say it's horrible. But it does raise a point, if we're restricting video and game content to minors, should the same principles and classifications apply to books?

Gough Suppressant posted:There are multiple porn book stores in the Melbourne CBD so I assumed we do restrict what types of book gets sold on shelves? I think you'll find that these places diversify and sell a wide range of adult products, not just adult porn "books". There's a difference between porn books and erotica, like 50 Shades of Grey. I guess my question is, should books such as 50 Shades of Grey be under some kind of classification? Do books even have a classification system? I know porn mags have to be covered up in newsagents and are rated adults only, but I have no idea if this is just magazines/published perodicals, or books as well. Keep in mind 50 Shades of Grey has pretty explicit scenes in it.

Our literature rating system is as follows; Has pictures of naked people in it - Only if it's in an adult shop or wrapped in plastic at a servo. Old people/puritans complained about it - R Everything else - Whatever who cares it's just words Compare this to our games rating system which is as follows; Old people/puritans complained about it - R/Banned Everything else - Whatever who cares games make kids go quiet Never underestimate the ability of a parent to crack the shits because their kid is reading a book wherein two teenagers kiss, though. Never mind that the Shakespeare they see as a signifier of high achievement has more racism and murder in an act than the video game industry could ever fathom creating.
