Unrelated, but how do most people deal with the type of player who uses nothing but projectiles from one side of the stage, and when you get close they scuttle away to the other side? I can tack on the percent fine, but they're so slippery I can't finish the job and they get tons of free rage. I had a match earlier with DHD and he lasted until about 180% before I could get a clean hit in. It almost went to time too, but he got hooked under the stage when trying to recover with 7 seconds to go. Am I just a huge scrublord for not being able to close out a stock on these guys?

Is there any sense when Nintendo will be releasing more WiiU Gamecube controller adapters? I waited too long to buy a WiiU for Smash and don't want to spend $80 on one as they are now :smith:

I find it pretty hard to believe Nintendo won't keep turning the crank that makes money on those adapters.

Read their movements and predict their bullshit, then punish. People like this usually have really obvious movement patterns and one-track minds when getting out of situations like that. Usually they'll just wait for you to come close, roll around you then run for the other side. Bait out the roll and gently caress them.

ChaosArgate posted:

I assume they thought everyone was going to buy 4 controllers for every 1 adapter but they didn't remember that the Gamecube controller was built like a brick poo poo-house and the ones over a decade old are still usable.

Each adapter fits multiple controllers. Nintendo probably just thought people still played Smash with real life friends.

Three ways:

1. If you have projectile attacks that allow you to outspam the spammer, or indirectly attack, or go through the projectiles feel free to do so. For instance, many charged shot projectiles will go straight through normal projectile attacks and knock off the stage.
2. With good timing and fast falling/short hopping/shielding skills, you should be able to approach the spammer without taking any damage. Doing this is also demoralizing - if the spammer lands the projectiles, he's definitely going to keep spamming, even if they don't do real damage, but if you're not getting hit, then the strategy is pointless.
3. Projectile spam has recovery frames. There's a certain point where if you get close enough, firing a projectile leaves the user open enough to land an aerial attack, or even straight up get smashed before the projectile comes out. Once you get to that range, the projectile user will likely try to get by you and run to the other side.
4. Usually, a character has at least one good aerial stick move that sends a dude off the stage. Your job is to hit the dude with that aerial (or a smash if he tries to roll on the ground) and send him flying when he runs out of stage space and tries to go past you. Getting into the range where the projectile is dangerous will bait him into moving.

So I guess our punishment for getting the game a few weeks earlier than Japan is that they get a new music track that we didn't get? Maybe we'll get it added in a future patch or something...

It's been covered pretty thoroughly already, but the mantra I have to tell myself is "don't get mad, jump and hit him." If the fella you're fighting keeps spamming, you are almost 100% guaranteed to eat one of those projectiles at some point. Just eat it. Keep going. It can be really frustrating when you're Ganondorf or Jigglypuff or somebody otherwise projectile-less, but you're not helpless--not for very long. Get a low hop going on and punch that smug bastard in the face. And keep pressure once you get a hold of them, players that rely on ranged attacks often (but not always) go into Panic Mode when you refuse to stop punching them in the face. Just don't give up if they slip out of your grasp, you just gotta make up for the damage they're putting on you.

EDIT: I say all that, but I still get my rear end broken in by Ness players. If they curve the lightning just right I'll dodge it once, and then it hits me while I'm recovering from dodging it the first time, and then I get juggled into heaven. And then I get mad at video games.

Dumb question time!

- Does this have much content to be getting on with single player? I don't have any friends people who'd be interested in couch coop :(
- Failing the above, is there any sort of matchmaking or would it be all NNID requests (which would likely mean I would never play multiplayer at all)?

It's fun by itself, but I'm a huge fan of Smash and Smash in HD is enough to get me to spend $60
And yeah, you can play online against randos through matchmaking + goons through NNIDs

When Galaxy came out I went to a midnight release (yeah I know) and Charles Martinet was signing copies of the game. When I went into the store they asked me if I wanted to go in the line to get my copy signed or the line to just get the game, and I couldn't help but think "who is a big enough fan of Mari to go to a midnight release but doesn't have the extra two minutes to get the game signed by Mario?"

When I met Charles Martinet he was kinda just being polite and working through the line and I told him that he and Mel Blanc were the voices of my childhood and he suddenly sorta sprang to life and his eyes woke up and he had a huge smile and thanked me and it was really great that's my story thanks
