They were a 17-year-old boy and his track coach. The boy, from Revere, Massachusetts, turned himself over to the police immediately and was cleared after a 20-minute interview in which they advised him to deactivate his Facebook account. New York Post editor Col Allan stated, "We stand by our story. The image was emailed to law enforcement agencies yesterday afternoon seeking information about these men, as our story reported. Netflix has a bold plan.quote:Within five years Netflix would like to premiere a new original series or new season of an existing series every two-and-a-half weeks, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York on Monday. Good for them but since they've only had one unequivocally good show so far I'll guess we'll have to see. Also it's looking like HBO is going to debut it's standalone service along with the new season of GoT in April.

zoux posted:Irish Joe what is a show that you think is unequivocally good. I'm still working on my top 10 for the other thread, but I'd say Louie, Fargo, Mom and 24 are all unequivocally good shows in addition to being the best shows from their respective genres. The problem with most of Netflix's output is that its reach exceeds its grasp. House of Cards is a competent show--it does everything right--but its not a good show. Orange is the New Black is a critically acclaimed show, but it isn't fun to watch. Bojack Horseman is a revolutionary cartoon that is visually ugly and leans too heavily on bad puns and Hollywood tropes. And so on and so forth. I'm looking forward to Kimmy Schmitt, but I haven't spent the last six months jacking it over the show so I can cum the moment its released. Hopefully its good, but if its not, I'm not going to hide my shame boner behind limp wristed defenses such as "we need more women-led comedies on television" (or whatever people will say about Kimmy Schmitt when they can't say "its good").

Well, the question is why would we set Netflix's bar higher than any current broadcast or cable network. The real threat here is if Netflix's slate is that ambitious and not tied to a specific TV season, they may poach series that networks may have bid on before they are ready to bid on them. Once the traditional fall TV season starts breaking down (and to be honest, this has been happening on its own the past few years with stronger and stronger summer programming), the whole ratings and ad structure completely collapses.

MLB Advanced Media was significantly ahead of the curve in realizing that streaming was the future, and as a result their infrastructure is generally very, very good. WWE uses it for their Network backend, and so does ESPN for its streaming and CBS for its March Madness streaming. It's a really solid platform.

Rocksicles posted:Honeybooboo, Pickerpreppers, Seinfeld. Honey Boo-Boo and Seinfeld had some of the greatest comedic endings in television history, the former unintentionally, but funny regardless. In Seinfeld, everyone was imprisoned because they were all just really lovely people who had no respect for society, which was a major theme; they were people who accomplished absolutely no character growth whatsoever throughout the series. And that's exactly what they were imprisoned for. Not unlike Seinfeld, the characters of Honey Boo-Boo also did not mature in any manner. In fact, they actually got worse as the show went on (though I did learn quite a bit about Extreme Couponing). The ending was perfect as they reintroduced an old romantic interest for Big Mama, a man who was recently released from a 10 year prison sentence for molesting Muffintop (Honey Boo Boo's sister), thus fitting in with the major theme that they were all lovely people with no respect for themselves.

OITNB, while obviously not Irish Joe's cup of tea, is probably the closest thing Netflix has to being actually 'good' at the moment. I haven't had the chance to watch Bojack Horseman yet. House of Cards though felt way to sterile most of the time and got boring to watch as Kevin Spacey just bulldozed over the competition (for the lack of a better word) like nothing. He had, what, 2 setbacks in all of the first season? That gets boring to watch. Apparently he just goes full supervillain in S2 and the show is not self-aware enough to realize it or something? Kimmy Schmidt I'm banking on Fey knowing what she is doing, so I'm none too worried about it. Hopefully. I say this as a big fan of 30 Rock and her time on SNL. And Marco Polo looks like it's getting poo poo on by critics for being too by-the-numbers and too much an attempt to grab GoT viewers. Apparently Marco Polo might be more of a business-led show than a creative one, and at least the critics can see the bullshit coming.
