The Apple 'Lemmings' ad from 1985. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGJ0mp4kRVo This was a Superbowl Ad, and it was Apple's follow-up to their Ridley Scott-helmed "1984" commercial, which is considered to be one of the best ads of all time. Lemmings was a dismal failure for a number of reasons, mostly that its extremely macabre and portrays potential customers as idiots.

I found a folder on my PC full with strange/dumb ads I seem to have grabbed from a SA thread back in 2006 (Christ, how long have I been lurking here? ) I don't even remember where I got them from, I don't think Youtube was already that well-known back then? No matter, no most of it can be found there by now Some choice bits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM6r5cp3Nl4 He seems to have tons of ads in which he casts himself as a super hero. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4-e4nlfdRI I remember crying with laughter when I first saw this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6LAVk1sHW8 A super strange Estonian ad for minced chicken meat (1986) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-CHG_To7Ag Of course the black guy turns into an orc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBs455jwb8w What it says on the tin, really. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fplj61Y5QME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaswBAS_-Z0 I wouldn't necessarily trust this college when it comes to video games...

Hopefully this is line with the thread topic. Behold, the VHS cover to the 1985 English/American version of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, titled Warriors of the Wind: Image source: http://kevinbolk.deviantart.com/art/Warriors-of-the-Wind-VHS-Cover-147175833 Some misleading things about this cover, from memory: -The main character is the girl in blue in the back, not the orange guy up front. -The red thing with the lightsaber is actually a giant, and thus couldn't be riding on top of that monster. -The Pegasus and Dr. Doom/Terminator thing do not appear in the movie at all. Whoever created this cover just made up two characters, and decided to make them more prominent than the actual goddamn protagonist. Ninja edit: oh wow I almost forgot about one of my favorite Wikipedia blurbs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nausica%C3%A4_of_the_Valley_of_the_Wind_%28film%29#Warriors_of_the_Wind quote:New World Pictures produced a 95 minute English-dubbed version of the film, titled Warriors of the Wind, and it was released theatrically in the United States in June 1985, with the VHS video release in December 1985.[6] In the late 1980s, Vestron Video would release the film and First Independent Video would re-release it in 1993 with another minute cut from the film. The voice actors and actresses were not informed of the film's plotline and the film was heavily edited to market it to children.[14] Consequently, part of the film's narrative meaning was lost; some of the environmentalist themes were diluted as was the main subplot of the Ohmu, altered to turn them into aggressive enemies. Most of the characters were renamed, including Nausicaä who became Princess Zandra.[14] The United States cover for the VHS release featured a cadre of male characters who are not in the film, riding the resurrected God Warrior—including a still-living Warrior shown briefly in a flashback.[15] A total of 21 minutes and 50 seconds was cut from the original production for the release of Warriors of the Wind.[16]

Local ads here in Scotland are always terrible. Thorne Travel agency, a recent classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA3JH5tfTYg I've been looking for the Ian R Taylor soft furnishings advert for ages, but I think it only shows on the Grampian microregion and I can't find it on YouTube. It's some grainy black-and-white stock footage of a stag on a hill, and sometimes the tape runs backwards and forwards to it looks like the stag's dancing, and all the while the voiceover guy (who I'm sure is the owner) sings: "Off yer chair, shift that bahookey, Come oan doon and have a looky, Ian R Taylor, sale is noo on!" and a big sign appears that reads "SALE IS NOO ON". It's so bad it's good, but none of my friends from outside Perth and Dundee believe me that it exists, and I can't find it online. They all think it's some poo poo I made up to prank tourists or something.

This commercial for Charter is currently the worst commercial on TV, to me. I know cable commercials are low hanging fruit they're all generally terrible and it doesn't seem to matter either way, but it's so bad, and seemingly endless, that we laugh every time it comes on. It just moves from one joyless, robotic scene to the next, on and on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZj2bOETKik My favorite part is when the black dude and pants lady do that neck dance move Look into their eyes. That is the look of a man who knows he is not going to make it as an actor.
