Southern Cross University’s Jennifer Nielsen told of a white prison guard’s complaint under our Racial Discrimination Act against an Aboriginal woman who called him a “white piece of sh--”, adding: “F--- you whites, you’re all f---ing sh--.”

Talk of having Aboriginal “blood” was once resisted by “anti-racists” because it was “a critical tool of oppression” and a way of “classifying Aboriginality”, another lecturer said.

But today defining Aboriginality by blood “represents ... a refusal to follow the trajectory of a white rendition of race and blood”. What was anti-racist is now racist, and vice versa, meaning the very best way now to prove you’re not racist is to attack whites for being white. Ask the Greens.

Something driving geared ­investment in property — and it is not just undertaken by the wealthiest — is the fiscal drag pushing people into higher tax brackets. Those on average weekly earnings are about to enter the second top income tax bracket. One of the only options on offer to people wishing to ­reduce their income tax bill (and hopefully enjoy a capital gain down the track) is to make geared investments, and not just in housing. Suburban accountants hand out this advice daily.

No doubt, Fairfax will not be making the case for reforming the income tax schedule by reducing the marginal tax rate and lowering the average tax burden paid by individuals. To eliminate or restrict negative gearing on residential property would lead to a massive dislocation in the property market. It would hurt renters and affect the incentive for developers to invest in new residential property.

If it were that simple, don’t you think Labor, under hapless treasurer Wayne Swan, would have restricted negative gearing? The fact that in six years nothing was done tells all you need to know.
