Gridlocked posted:Holy poo poo is that Journey Man Project? It was one of the first games I played on our BRAND NEW PACKARD-BELL WINDOWS 95 COMPATIBLE PC!!! It's also the first time I used a non DOS based system. It was new and exciting. I still have the computer, and would like to get it running since it's the easiest way to get games like Resident Evil 1 and a poo poo ton of old DOS games to work. Got a Sound Blaster Pro and a Voodoo 3 in there.

I spent probably way too much of my childhood playing Hover, trying & failing to beat Journeyman Project Turbo, and messing around with MIDI Orchestrator.

Every goddamn video game magazine from Electronic Gaming Monthly to Game Pro to Nintendo Power ran this contest every other year, upgrading the systems as new ones came out. Even as a teenager, I thought it was all a bullshit scam because no one has ever come forward saying, "Yep, I won ~~The Ultimate Gaming Rig!!©™~~ back then " EDIT: Reply is not edit You Are A Werewolf has a new favorite as of 02:59 on Dec 19, 2014 |

The Ultimate Gaming Rig isn't an outright "they don't send out the prizes," scam, but it's pretty close.

Wait this was a scam!? I remember thinking it was the coolest thing and I would TOTALLY win all of that if only I was allowed to send in money to random ads i saw in magazines. I was not. Truly, my parents stole from me the most ULTIMATE GAMING RIG. Honestly how could they run that thing year after year? Its such an obvious scam.

Come to think of it, I'm fairly sure the cut-scenes for that game are actually the only time yellow and orange lightsabers were ever seen in an "official" live-action production. They had a purple lightsaber (which was also double-bladed, except its blades were parallel to each other :kickinrad:) about five years before Samuel L. Jackson demanded he get one in Episode II.

I reckon that considering the two guys who posted in the comments only got money after basically demanding for months, and then not the full amount, lands it square in scam territory. I do remember similar ads here in Australia but I wonder if they might have been legit competitions here.

HAAHHAH you think those Channel 10 Video Hits ads to fax through entries to win a sweet rear end Playstation with Crash Bandicoot were real? I sure did and by golly did I abuse my parents fax machine ($5 per fax) like 50 times in one weekend completely sure that I would win and when my parents got the bill I would claim "No need to buy me a Christmas Present!" I didn't win, and the bill came and they lost their poo poo seeing the charges but tried to dial the fax number and it didnt work - so I was off the hook

Bart Simpson was quickly outshined by Beavis & Butthead. The Simpsons was something my whole family got together and watched, as were other "outrageous" shows like Married... With Children, but Beavis & Butthead was apparently so vile and without merit in my mother's eyes that she banned my brother and I from watching it for years. And then like 5 years later South Park came along and suddenly "fartknocker" wasn't such a foul term...

My mum wouldn't let me watch Johnny Bravo because it once had the word "sexy" in it and she thought that was inappropriate.

In Living Color is another one of those shows that pushed a lot of boundaries at the time but is pretty drat tame by today's standards. It also had the best/most 90s intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V-EKx4XNxE

jeese, apparently my parents were cooler than I thought, never had an issue with South Park. I do remember when The Simpsons first started here in New Zealand that it was on at 9:30PM, after Married... With Children on a Saturday night.

Years later it occurred to me that I should actually watch the first episode. I had no chance.
