Russia is pretty bad, but hopefully the falling oil prices will force them to make amends. Like for example extraditing Edward Snowden to the US.

Look, you read the Cuban thread. You saw my reference to the last guy who got involved with a latin american connected cokehead who happened to be a bit of a closeted alderman. We end up with a not-so-hizzonah, dead, in women's underwear, with an open window, face-first in a "deep dish" pizza

Thats what happens when you start hanging out with UofC lawschool kiddies

Serious Q, whats a good date movie for next weekend?

lmao fox is running the headline "Obama Apologizes to Castro"

http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/12/20/obama-apologizes-castro

in the article it doesn't explain, but if you go to the article it's referencing:

quote:

Obama began the phone call with Castro with what he described as 15 minutes of opening comments. It was the first conversation between the heads of state in both countries since 1961.

"I apologized for taking such a long time," Obama said.

Hth, Obama is taking advice from union staffers. Trollbama is an actual thing. All it took for Obama to listen to his Fired Up & Ready To Go base was Democrats losing both houses.

Well the new Exodus movie is over two and a half hours long, so since you presumably won't be posting while at the theater I suggest you see that one.

A lot of stuff that got stolen probably has to be replaced. Replaced with newer stuff. That can be tax deducted due to the emergency situation in which the replacing takes place in.

Rahm wins again. :smuggo:

I am telling my friends I fully support the approach President Obama has just adopted concerning Cuba.

It is time, indeed, to look at the relations with that country with the eyes of today and not with the perspective that has shaped our past.

It is easier to change the situation if we engage. Presence is influence. Presence is a launching pad to support change. And the people of Cuba are eager to see change in their country. Raul Castro understands it but he is constrained by his own personal history, his political relationships and the power base that keeps him at the head of the Party. But even he keeps stating the old things he is at the same time creating the conditions for a more democratic and more prosperous Cuba. We should be able to understand that.

So I got myself business attire. Ended up sticking with black for belt and shoes, as their other options did not look appetizing. My younger self, wearing his cargo pants and T-shirt, is looking at me with intense disappointment.

Their cachet may have to do with them being standard for modern IDF uniforms. The term for cargo pants in Hebrew, "dagmah", is short for "degem hadash" or "new model", as in new model of uniform. (The old pants didn't have additional thigh pockets)

My old job involved working a lot in a warehouse and/or going out in a van to move furniture. If I could justify it, I'd still wear steeltoes. They're like, shoes, but they also protect your feet! You drop things on them and then you don't lose your toes! It's brilliant!

echinopsis posted:

Is it really real.

I mean, addiction as we know it is a lot of varied and open to interpretation than traditional understandings that were mostly based on physical drug dependencies

We know that anything pleasurable whatsoever can lead to irrational thought patterns that drive actions and we could often describe them as addictive.

What about food addiction? There are fundamental differences obviously between food and other addictions, because we need to eat food whether or not we are addicted.

Is it a legitimate addiction? When people make seemingly illogical decisions regarding food, is that "just being gluttonous", or can we say they are suffering some kind of addictive potency? If someone wakes up in the morning and says "I am sick of treating my body this way I need to step it up no junk food" and then in the evening they are binge eating.. again.. is it just a fail of willpower or is there an addictive element?

And how does one address it? Even if a person adopts a diet that manages to restore a normal relationship with food, so many treats and celebrations and socialising revolves around eating, often "treat" food.
