If I wanted to spend 4 hours in a room with a bunch of nerds passing around an anime doll, I would see a Kevin Smith movie on opening night.

You'd need: Wii U ($200-$250), Smash Bros ($60), and 3 additional controllers beyond the Gamepad. Do you have any? You can use a pro controller ($50 msrp, deals exist), Wiimote ($30), Wiimote with the Motion Plus feature ($40), nunchuk attachments for those if you want the experience to suck less ($20ish), and three friends (priceless).

Do any of them own a 3DS with the portable version of SSB? If so, that can be used as a controller, too.

The Pro controller is probably the best overall experience, but it's pricey.

You can also use Gamecube controllers if you have the adapter that Nintendo apparently made about 40 of, which is probably quite nice. It is not available unless you're willing to pay scalpers 10x the price.

First get a refursbished Wii U from Nintendo dot com. It'll only be about $210 and that includes shipping. You'll get a Wii U and Nintendo Land.

Then, try to find the Smash Bros Wii U Bundle if you still can. Some places online might still have it. It's about $100 but it comes with a Gamecube Controller and the Gamecube Adapter.

Lastly, buy two extra Gamecube Controllers if necessary.

So, if you already have the Gamecube controllers, you're looking at $310 for optimal fun. It is worth it though!

If you are not a purist, you can use other control schemes to play Smash Bros. The Wii U Pro Controllers can play it, but they are like $40 a pop. Nice controllers and somewhat like a Gamecube controller. But in all seriousness, GET THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER ADAPTER!

Don't get the adapter unless you're an insane/dedicated person who is going to play hundreds of hours of Smash Bros, OR you already have the four GC controllers. Because that's the only game you're going to play with them. I would recommend scrounging together an assortment of controllers. Like at least one Wiimote with classic controller because that also enables you to play a whole ton of good games on Wii.

If you softmod the Wii partition, you can also use it to play GameCube games which is the coolest thing ever to me.

I generally hate portable gaming - but 3d land was worth the 90 bucks I spent on the system. A superb mario game, a great halfway point between the origianl 2d series and the more modern entries.

And get yourself this deal from Nintendo for controllers - https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/us/p...oryId=cat140077

Smash is really hard to play if you just have a remote, but the remote+ nunchuck combo works for smash and drat near everything else.

Sholud I pick up any one of the mario games while I'm at it? I really couldn't stand the triple A style of 2d platformer they somehow made when they build New Super Mario Bros for the DS, alternatively I really love the originals up through 64 and played the hell out of galaxy 1.

Honestly, if you foresee yourself playing a lot of multiplayer Smash, it's a little more cost effective to buy an adapter at MSRP if possible and 3 GC controllers than it is to buy 3 Pro controllers or classic controllers+wiimotes. I picked one up with no real intentions of personally using a GC controller because the Pro controller is wonderful, but I often have several people over who want to play Smash and I don't like having to juggle around controllers to determine who gets the lovely option.

Cake Attack

the gc adapter is good because smash supports 8 players and no one has 8 controllers for the wii u people want to use, but lots of people have gamecube controllers. one adapter gets you four controllers for smash

It's actually not that fun the time or two we tried it. Like there's a lot of dying and not realizing why. Maybe we should have played one of the giant stages.

But still like hitting 5 people in a final smash is awesome

the NSMB series are straight-up 2D platformers. 3D World is a direct sequel to 3D Land on the 3DS - it's a 3D platformer, but not open-world like Mario 64. 3D world has Mario 3's overworld, drop-in/drop-out co-op and lots and lots of unlockable poo poo. Here's your elaboration: buy super mario 3D world.

New Super Mario U is the best out of the four "New" series. It's rather good. It's 2D.

Mario 3D World is a class act on its own, though. If you can only get one, get this. It's 3D as per the name.

Both games support co-op with New allowing up to five players at once.

Also, Wii compatibility and the fact you enjoyed the first Galaxy game means you should at once locate the second Galaxy game, which is even better than its prequel.

For all the controller people remember that right now kmart has the pro controller for $28 right now which is a great deal AND you can get it price matched at wal mart just by showing them the ad on your phone.

Also I'm assuming that you can still get a refurbished wiimote plus and nunchuk package for $20 directly from Nintendo which is another great deal.
