I didn't like small general, bad AI and little depth. Check out the Tiller's Panzer Campaigns, the first title is free and the scenarios are much smaller than in the PC games.

It would help that, even if it didn't win, the people who voted for it got *half* off of what it was going to be discounted for had it won.

So when I'm setting patrol levels for air units in WitP (CAP, LRcap, Train, Rest), are those percentages of the entire day, or just a percentage of those pilots' on-duty times? Like, if I set 100% CAP, does that mean the pilots will spend their every waking moment on combat patrol? Should I be setting a maximum of like 70/30 CAP/rest? Edit: also, is there a list somewhere of the oil-producing hexes on the map? I'm clicking through them randomly on the map and not seeing any indication on any of the obvious ones (around the Dutch East Indies). Drone fucked around with this message at 07:58 on Dec 21, 2014 |

Some more random WitP:AE questions. 1. What do I need to reload land-based torpedo bombers? The manual says I need a HQ with "Torpedo Ordnance", but none of my existing HQ units have that listed. Am I out of luck in this scenario (Guadalcanal), because I'd love to arm my Avengers at Lunga with torpedoes. Will any air HQ work? 2. How do I create PT boats? Manual says to have a transport task force loaded with supplies in port and I can select the option, but it doesn't appear to work. 3. Is it a bad idea to base aircraft at a base without aviation support, or slightly over the base's group limit, or have more aviation support required than exists? Do these factors cripple the air groups, or just make them more inefficient?
|
# ? Dec 21, 2014 15:38 |

1. You have to "buy" the torpedoes with supplies using a button on the Air HQ after you select it as a land unit. 3. It's very bad to base aircraft at a base that has 0 aviation support. I'm not even sure if the planes will fly in such conditions. It's "bad" to overstack airgroups in excess of a base's limit, and it's bad to have airplanes in excess of the available Aviation Support, but just how bad is a sliding scale depending on how much you push it. The former will cause aircraft launching and coordination penalties, while the latter will result in longer repair times and outright Operational losses of airframes.

Graviteam Tactics is on sale for the steam holiday thing. 85% off right now. http://store.steampowered.com/app/275290/ I don't understand why this doesn't make Combat Mission obsolete, so if you haven't tried this yet and want to do sperg-level RTS with dynamic campaigns please make an attempt and we can have ~dialectics~ about it. edit: not intended as a response to the above post. Graviteam games are also closer to Close Combat and Theater of War in scale - all of those have dynamic campaigns with platoon size task forces running around on operational maps, whereas Combat Mission lets you play battalion and regiment sized engagements. Plus I really do prefer well designed historical scenarios over repetitive and lopsided generated battles which are of interest solely in the operational context.

Hello fellow grogsmen. I have a few questions for you all. I've been trying to get a buddy of mine into FC:RS but he is having some trouble getting comfortable with it. Are there any tutorials, training scenarios that help a bit more than the one included in the game? He seems pretty convinced that Black Sea will be more accessible and is excited for that game, I don't know about that haha. On the topic of Combat Mission. Are there any youtubers or anyone else that records for the series? I've been following the Germany vs. US thread here but can't seem to find anyone else that is quality. Thanks!

It doesn't give you a bonus discount for voting for it, but it does give everyone halfway between what it was and what it would have been had it won.

HisMajestyBOB posted:Some more random WitP:AE questions. 1. Click the button to view TOE instead of actual units on the Air HQ. Torpedo ordnance will be yellow. Click it and put in a number. Air HQ will now automatically try to keep that number or torps available, buying new ones with supply when some are expended. Or you can buy torps manually with the tiny button next to torpedo ordnance in the units view, but these will not replenish by themselves. 2. You can buy PT-boats in any port with sufficient supplies, but you also need to have some in the pool. You won't untill 1943 or something unless you send some of existing ones to the pool, like the ones in Manila and Pearl at game start. PTs kinda suck though. They're pretty much only viable for a few days each month round 0% moonlight, you need them to be within torpedo range at combat start. I've had the dutch ones in Java run away from unescorted merchants time and time again because they were spotted at 8000 yards. 3. Yes, it's bad. As the allies you'll get more than enough air force base forces during 1943 to fill up most airbases though. The Aussie base forces can upgrade their TOE to get more aviation support, the medium ones upgrade once, the small ones twice. Buy them out from Australia Command to make them deployable before their TOE upgrades to save some PP. TOE upgrades have some requirements: - Unit must be able to upgrade (set date, you can see it by hovering over the unit name in ground unit view) - Unit must be in rest mode - Unit must be within 2x command range of a Command HQ (top level HQ like SoPac, Australia Command, etc.), I think all Commad HQs have a range of 9, so upgrading units mist be within 18 hexes. Also remember that when an airbase hits level 8 present aviation support will be doubled (The actual, NOT the required). This is to simulate the efficiency of a large well-ordered field as opposed to a mud strip in the jungle.

But: quote:If you have a combo pack, such as the Grand Campaign Mega Pack or the German retail 1939-1942 Grand campaign, these packs actually include multiple expansions. You must register each one separately, but use the same serial. E.g. if you have the 1939-1942 GC pack from Germany and your serial 1234-8765-1234-8765, you would register the 1939 GC with the serial, then 1940, then 41 then 42. For the megpack you need to do all 10. Excuse me a moment, I just need to generate and register 10 steam keys

Hegemony III - Clash of the Ancients is up on kickstarter. In another triumph of grog marketing, absolutely no mention of this has been made anywhere and I only saw it through a chance mention in an unrelated tweet. I thought the first game was great, but ultimately got repetitive. I honestly didn't like the resource management changes they made in Caesar. But I'd love if they made a third game (Samnites!!) although I don't think they'll make $30k.

I wanted to like the hegemony games, but I hate the weird things they did with the scale, it just annoys me too much that my phalanx extends half way across Greece, and that to flank the enemy my troops will be making a 500 mile march lasting a year. If you are going to do a game on that scale either do total war drop in battles or else counters with abstracted combat I feel.

I love that their first stretch goal is double their base goal. Also that they've got an artist with a name so douchey it makes me want to hit him in the face: Blake Donald Quin Cavendish Clark Withers. Also, "our first game released on floppy disks" doesn't really seem like a sign of a long legacy in the grog industry. I bet there are still wargame companies pumping out copies on 3.5 inch floppies believing that they're superior to modern media for some absurdly asinine reason.

So, for Panzer Corps do I understand those prices correctly? On Steam, the cheapest way to get everything would be to get the "Complete Grand Campaign" plus Allies Corps and Africa Corps seperately from the DLC list for 47,52€. On Matrixgames, I'd need to get Panzer Corps + Allied Corps + Africa Corps + the Grand Campaign Megapack for 52,96€ + Taxes. Or am I missing something?
