"The entire history of this incarnation is one of temporal orbits, retcons, paradoxes, parallel time lines, reiterations, and divergences. How anyone can make head or tail of all this chaos, I don't know."

Wow. That's... on the nose. And hilarious.

"A horror movie called Alien? That's really... offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you."

As Alien is one of my favourite films I might be slightly biased.

Also, I do like seeing Danny again. :unsmith:

Apparently Santa Claus is the subconscious. Not a massive loving rammer-train and loads of armed guards. Santa.

I thought it was fun. It was a pretty good finale for season eight; "Death In Heaven" was the denouement but this felt like the conclusion.

Sorry to crash the new episode chat, but I'd like to give that humble bundle to my step dad(who is NOT MY REAL DAD AND NEVER WILL BE GAAAAAUUUUGH!). And I'm not sure the best way. If I gift it, how easy will it be for him to actually use it on his iphone? If I buy a second copy and burn it I'm afraid it'll be too hard for him to get it into some sort of portable device to actually listen to them at work.

I'm 700ish miles away and don't use Apple products, so trouble shooting won't be easy.

This is my exact sentiment. It's my second favourite of the Moffat Christmas specials.

I do worry that Clara will outstay her welcome like Amy and Rory did. I was getting a little misty eyed at the end before the swerve and I can't imagine a better ending for her than what was just teased.

Yeah I kindof wish they didn't do the final twist. It felt cheap and made me dislike the earlier awakenings a bit too. Still a decent special though.

Whatever.
Hahah, at that final swerve. Ya got me Moffat. Thought that was going to be a decent send off, and seemingly it looked like old Clara had pictures of "family" around. Which I thought would mean that she did end up getting pregnant from Danny. I expected Orson to walk in to tie everything together.

The volcano also makes an interesting return. Previously in Dark Water it wasn't real. Here it wasn't real, then it turned out to be real anyway. Was this another hint about a possible Pompeii "It's like I'm trying to tell myself something?" call back?

I'm OK, you're so-so
That was really excellent and probably the best Christmas special in recent memory. Capaldi and Coleman were as excellent as they've been all year, and Nick Frost especially knocked it out of the park. I'm glad they're playing up Capaldi's comedic side more, and it's good to see he can do both the sarcastic quips and put-downs as well as the excitable-kid-in-an-adult-body thing Smith perfected (like in the sleigh ride bit: "Would you like to have a go?" ":reject: you're a group hallucination constructed by our collective minds BUT YEAH ALRIGHT :haw:").

But yeah, I have to echo those who would have liked Clara's send-off to be the real thing. It's weird, I went from being disappointed to hear she might be leaving when it was announced to really expecting it by the end of Series 8 because it felt like a natural ending, despite how well Twelve and Clara worked together. This would have been a nice cap to Clara's arc on the show, and her coming back feels very much like the Ponds doing their unnecessary victory lap in Series 7. But like I said, she and Twelve proved to be a great TARDIS team in Series 8, so I can't complain too much.
