Related question, are the increased frequency of DDOS attacks putting people off playing these games? And conversely, how much more would you be willing to pay monthly for measures to help mitigate these attacks, assuming that was possible (I know DDOS's are very difficult if not impossible to eliminate).

I'm not gonna pay extra because companies can't run infrastructure capable of staying online when a stiff breeze looks at them funny from across the room.

I didn't get the ban message, but otherwise I'm having the same issue.

Even if paying extra for DDoS mitigation was feasible, PSN appears to be online, which means you'd be paying extra purely for Call of Duty DDoS mitigation. I might not mind if PSN was slightly more expensive and more robust, but the idea of paying an additional fee for every game I want to play online does not appeal to me in the slightest.

No, since I haven't been affected at all by the ddos attacks, as they always happen when I'm not playing, and $0 because I already pay Microsoft $50 per year to mitigate ddos attacks for me, by bringing their live gold service that I paid for, back up.

If you are on a console you are already paying Microsoft and Sony to keep their networks up full time. Microsoft supposedly makes $6 million or so a month off Live subscriptions and before the Xbox One came around they were charging that so you could play peer-to-peer games.

It's also not impossible to stop a DDoS attack, Lizard Squad went after Steam last week and took down a single server...for less than a minute. By comparison they pulled Origin and Battlefield 4 offline about five times this last year for a few hours each time. Microsoft and Sony aren't investing in security and stability, either with better programming or providing backup servers because they sort of have players over a barrel. If you want to play games online you have to use their services, so they can cheap out or not care about some facet of the online infrastructure. Any apology they make is going to cost less than actually fixing the problem in a meaningful way and you really only hurt yourself if you say you are going to boycott their online services, so they still make their money off you.

I received the Season (p)rear end as a gift and tried out the AE4 the other night. It's really quiet compared to most weapons, and you get about 10 shots before it overheats.
It takes 3-4 hits to kill someone, and I'm guessing the Widowmaker is the only variant I'll get until the next DLC drops, which sucks because it is a lousy upgrade from the base gun.

Is anyone else getting kinda put-off by the design direction of this whole 'pick 13' stuff? I swear with every new cod game my guy can do less and less. 90% of people in this game are running a 3 slot SMG and extra perks. Half the perks are worthless. I almost never see exo abilities or grenades (for a good reason). About the only good new thing here is customizable killstreaks, and even then the point system/balancing is way off and results in almost nobody ever getting streaks (kill confirmed) or non-stop streak spam (dom). Maybe I am just bad or something but I am seeing this as easily one of the worst cods to date.

It's merely a return to BLOPS 2, but with less powerful more expensive streaks and weaker weapons.

Half the perks may be worthless, but this is a step back towards the right direction, considering Ghosts had like 50 perks and all but three of them were useless. I actually see Exo Cloak and Exo Trophy quite a bit, but the other exo abilities kind of suck. I'm trying to do the Exo Hover challenge before I prestige again and it's a massive headache, I can only get kills while doing it in Hardcore. As for grenades, this game would've been way better with the old school explosives rather than AW's balls of variable explodiness. I only use semtex because the other stuff sucks. The frag grenades just bounce around and don't do enough damage, the explosive drone takes forever, and threat grenade and EMPs would be more useful if they just went off on contact rather than needing to be detonated manually. Give me C4 over any of them any day of the week.

It can do that, but the Ameli fires fast enough that it really doesn't need that, plus a 50 round belt with that reload is pretty painful. I sold it after a few games.

This game has been pretty frustrating netcode wise the past two times I've played it, but somehow I'm doing better then ever before. My SPM after tonight's session is now 470. I die a lot, but somehow I'm getting my streaks pretty consistently. I just wish they would kill people. In my last game tonight, I called in 3 Warbirds and 4 Assault Drones, and got a whopping 7 kills from them.

This would probably be my favorite COD if they tweak the netcode and the gun balance. I hate having to use the BAL, ASM1, and KF5 (and MP11 and ARX160 if I'm feeling lucky) all the time.

The Ameli is pretty good so far, but it needs the Quickdraw Grip because going without is near-suicide one-on-one.

I don't mind it. It works pretty good for how I play. Most of my classes have a primary weapon with 3 attachments, and then for my kill streaks I use UAV (threat detection, support, speed), care package (support, better odds, double tap), and sometimes the remote turret (support, sentry, 360 or hardened). I'll probably take off the remote turret soon though because it seems like everyone is running blind eye these days.

My only variants are the perks since I almost never use the grenades, secondary weapons, or exo abilities. Hardwired is a must to not have to deal with system hacks. I use toughness when playing regular dom. If I'm tubing, then I use danger close. KC or TDM games I use low profile. Lastly I usually use blind eye, and if I have room, cold blooded.

I've never been good enough to reliably chain together enough points/caps/kills to get the higher kill streaks, so being able to pick stuff like a good UAV or a good care package and slap support on them is great compared to Ghosts where you had to pick from an entire group of lovely support items if you picked that class. And for me, its better than BLOPS2 because the best I could usually do there was UAV/CUAV/Turret. It wasn't until MONTHS of playing that I could finally start getting nice things like VSATS or escort drones. With that being said, for those of you that are actually good at this game I can see how the kill streaks suck. One of my favorite parts of BLOPS2 was always the beginning of round 2 in dom games when our teams would always have like 2 VSATS, a lodestar, an EMP and a swarm to call in.

exactly, if 2 people on the team are running support UAV with Cheater vision and extended time, this allows the better players to gain kills/defend points, earn paladins, etc. I don't mind the excessive cost of poo poo cause.... hell its easier for me to run around, snag dom points, kill a few dudes, and not get all stressed out about dying.

what horror the gas

I'm garbage enough at this game that a lot of times I'll only earn a single UAV, albeit one with support and cheatervision with extra time or extra assist points. I get frustrated and change classes when I'm doing poorly and lose the progress towards anything higher.

I haven't had a decent game since before Christmas, I feel like I've lost my groove. I can't kill poo poo with a shotgun anymore, and I've spent so much time using the XMGs that any class with more limited magazine sizes and no big-rear end shield to hide behind doesn't work for me. I'm close to another prestige, though, so I'll probably hit the button and start from scratch and hope I can un-learn my bad habits.

This is pretty much what I run - a primary with three attachments and a perk one, perk two and usually two perk threes. I don't use any grenades or exo abilities (I miss C4 and EMP grenades).

I always run UAV and Care Package and some combo of sentry gun (in hardcore) or missile strike / bombing run.

I miss the variety of streaks - BLOPS2 had 22 streaks - there are only 12 in AW. I do like the ability to customize them however, but it doesn't add all that much beyond making a few of them support. MW3 had it best - 15 assault steaks, 12 support and specialist.
