I'm trying to figure out where that 50k went in the car. Even including the sale price, I still don't see where 20k went in it. At 66k miles and an average of 20mpg (low estimate) he couldn't have even spent that much on gas.

What's the guideline for how much of the car has to go along with the VIN plate for it to be considered the same car, anyway? Obviously you can't drill the VIN plate off and install it on another car, but you can replace about half the car without any legal trouble. If the entire piece that the VIN plate is attached to is intact that sounds like fair game to me. How much of the original car do restorers have to keep?
