If the guy in the middle hadn't tried to talk over everyone for the whole game then it would have been one of the better runs of the marathon. Still great, but not BBT tier.

Except he was super informative and had good commentary throughout.

would have been better if the runner hadn't been completely stonefaced and silent the whole time

i mean i guess i'm just spoiled by the tetris runs but drat dude, there was some downtime where you could have cracked jokes or something

Have you not noticed how for a big chunk of these runs the couch does commentary so the runner can focus on the game? Hell, pretty much any downtime was mainly filled by the dev commentary too

And why didn't he say cool one liners whenever he beat a boss???? A cool catchphrase for when he broke a continue point would have very cool as well

You know I don't mind? I'd rather the runner bowed out of commentating as long as they have a solid+ couch (devs are a bonus in this case but hard to do regularly).

Much better than forced commentary from someone who doesn't want to do it and isn't good at it.

edit; or can and does but can't do a clean run and talk at the same time so ends up choking.

Yeah I can see complaining about a runner being boring if there's just no commentary at all, but between the couch and developers there was virtually no dead air at any point whatsoever. And Shovel Knight is a pretty consistently challenging game to speed run, it's not like he can just stop paying attention to the game.

The only thing I don't like about the Mega Man block is that they're all basically the same game over and over and it gets super repetitive after a while.

This should be interesting. MM Unlimited is one of those fan games with 'gently caress you' difficulty. There are screens where you will just die over and over until you master the exact timing to pass it, only to die on the next screen.

It's an endearing fan effort. It gets a lot of what made Mega Man wrong, but it's by no means terrible, just has some questionable design decisions. It's also very fan-shlock heavy, there's a secret boss called Yoku Man who is the guy who makes all the disappearing blocks and it's a giant disappearing block stage, the last fight is an unwinnable battle with Zero. The guy put in an easter egg where Roll is occasionally replaced in the shop with his waifu from Ranma who he draws porn of or something.

But I mean...it looks good, the music's cool...

As someone who's pretty new to Megaman games, that was pretty interesting to me to see a whole bunch of them done back-to-back in previous GDQ marathons, because it's interesting to see how small changes in controls and gameplay style can create or invalidate entire strategies and tactics for speedrunning, or even just playing through the game normally.

I think its kind of a running joke to have one robot master that is just stupid. I mean didn't one of the mega man games have a loving Sheep Man?

Well Mega Man 2 has guys like Metal Man, Wood Man, and Bubble Man, so it's not like it's limited to one per game.
