The point is just to make Vriska happy and content and then have it taken away when she's sent back to life, because Good Things Do Not Happen To Vriska Serket. I would not analyze the situation any further than that. Vriska coming back to life could not be telegraphed any harder if Western Union was writing this.

Vriska tried to force herself on Tavros, Equius rewired Aradia's brain to be attracted to him, Cronus abuses Mituna (who is mentally ill), Gamzee and Terezi attempt to murder eachother constantly, but THIS, the one with two willing, mutually attracted trolls, this is the one you guys balk at. The whole never-ending story sequence was great because it was completely bizarre (including the troll cosplay, as that had at the time only just started being a thing that IRL people did, so it wasn't mundane yet). Proposing to Vriska in the desert was still funny but with frayed edges because it shifted the tone from "Alice in Wonderland" to "tonight on the f plus..." And now we're here, defeated, in the vicinity of some horses.

Y'all are a bunch of big babies. This was overly sugary sweet for a reason that's going to become apparent real soon. It was so ridiculously over the top happy that it's obviously just set up for tragedy. Calm your tits and stop declaring Homestuck ruined with every slow update. This was just set up, it needs to happen. I mean, if you guys think this is bad I can only imagine the agony you'd be feel reading OotS with like 2-3 loving months of nothing happening. This demonstrates that Vriska and Meenah's gayness for each other is such a constant that even the author cannot change it, much as he would like to, which means that if we get a retjohn that ends with them having 1)no memories of this and 2)no feelings for each other, John will canonically be more powerful than the author of the story. Which would be weird. I can't remember what the conditions are for this or if it's at all common, but if I remember correctly it was definitely established that characters outside of the alpha timeline can contribute their memories and emotions to their alpha timeline selves (it happened with the doomed timeline with only Dave and Rose alive, I think?), so if this counts as not an alpha timeline (wait, do dream bubbles count as fitting into any timeline at all? I can't remember at all), I wouldn't be surprised if they both have latent memories of all of this later on. It would have pretty significant repercussions on their personalities, because they'd have to weigh their shared tendency to want to manipulate everything that's going on against their instinctual understanding that the possibility of annihilation isn't actually that bad if you can roll down a hill and kiss someone and chill. I really need to go back and reread this whole comic, because I started reading it right when it started, and I've never gone back and done a complete reread of the whole thing, and there are a lot of big details that I'm extremely hazy on...
