Can someone post all of Ramirez's cartoons on the issue in order, so we can see his real opinions be shown in quick order.

Rorus Raz posted:Do we really have any room to talk about dated references when we can't get enough of a donkey from a five-year-old cartoon? The donkey continues to be art, especially the Pants Comfortably Worn elephant. Referencing a very old and very stale gag is lazy and defeats the entire purpose of it being a punchline.

The difference is also that the Donkey (Pants be upon him) is an inside joke, while old Austin Powers references are the humour equivalent of a Family guy skit.

steinrokkan posted:Yes, take that one for example. That Muslim character looks just like their Jesus, and it's actually full of life, humorous joy and character in ways that McCoys' / Lester's aren't. Why the hell should they replace it with something deliberately lifeless to "broaden their appeal", aka do the exact opposite of what they are trying to do? Where you're seeing "life, humorous joy and character" other people are seeing a straight up racist depiction. It's facetious on a couple of levels to compare it to a depiction of Jesus. First of all, there's no indication that the image is meant to represent one Muslim in particular. Rather, the picture is a cipher for "generic Muslim guy" which - hey! - makes it racist! Also, when a group is a religious and ethnic minority that is systemically disenfranchised by the society the artwork comes from, it's really hard to give equal weight to offensive images of their members and offensive images of the majority group because of said power gap. Especially if the person making the image is part of the religious/ethnic majority!

Hey guys, we should talk about some of those Ramirez comics. They seem pretty racist. Someone get on that. I have to admit that Ramirez kinda offends me the most not because his stuff is shocking at all, but rather that I have grown up with people who literally professed those ideas. I've reached a point where I am no longer shocked but rather saddened by them because I know in my heart that some dude is looking at that going, "gently caress yeah man, show dem foreigners. Preach on. "

A Thing Happened. Bill Cosby is doing shows in Canada right now and predictably getting a mixed response including a lot of protesters and half-empty venues (with the other half often full of supportive fans). He's also been making jokes about how he's a rapist, including telling a woman at one of his shows that it's dangerous to drink around him.
